    Important Dates

    • Submissions Open: June 3rd
    • Submission Deadline: July 20th

    Eligibility

    • Open to students in rising grades 7–12
    • Middle School Division: Rising grades 7–8
    • High School Division: Rising grades 9–12
    • Seniors completing high school this summer are eligible to submit
    • Participants must currently live on the East Coast of the United States

    Entry Limits

    • Participants may submit up to 2 entries total
    • Entries must be in 2 different categories
    • If you are submitting two entries, please complete the form once for each submission.

     Cost: 

    The Next Wave Summer Showcase is completely free to enter. 

     Upload Formats

    • Writing: PDF only
    • Poetry: PDF, DOCX, or TXT
    • Visual Art: JPEG or PNG
    • Photography: JPEG
    • Film/Video: MP4 or MOV
    • Business & Invention Pitches: PDF, PowerPoint, and Google Slides

     Originality & AI Policy

    • All work must be original
    • Plagiarized, stolen, or copied work will be disqualified
    • Excessive AI-generated content is not allowed
    • Limited AI assistance is only permitted for certain design/presentation elements such as logos or animation frames
    • All other uses of AI are prohibited.

    Arts: Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Digital Art, Animation, Film, Photography
    Writing: Poetry, Journalism, Fiction, Nonfiction, Script/Playwriting
    Innovation and Entreprenurship: Product/Invention/Engineering Concepts and Business Ideas and Pitches

    *Please refer to the documment above for specific information and requirements as they are no present on this form.

    Art Notes: You may submit up to 5 images per category. For Film and Animation, you may submit a completed short film or animated short in place of images. For Photography and Digital Art, you may submit a cohesive series or collection as a full project.

    Writing Notes:
    1 side of a paper = 1 page
    Ex: Front and back counts as 2 pages
    All writing submissions must be typed and clearly readable

    *Both Innovation and Entrepreneurship categories are open to concepts, prototypes, or already-existing projects and initiatives.

     

     

    Restricted Content

    Submissions may not include:

    • Hate speech or discrimination
    • Explicit or graphic content
    • Dangerous or illegal activities
    • Spam or unrelated submissions
    • Harmful, threatening, or inappropriate material

    Important Notes

    By submitting:

    • You confirm the work is your own
    • You agree that Next Wave may feature your work (with credit) on our website, social media, and digital magazine
    • You retain full ownership of your work
    • Submissions that do not follow guidelines may be disqualified

  • File Requirements for Each Category:

    Please ensure your files are in the correct format before uploading. Submissions in the wrong format may be disqualified.

    Poetry: .pdf, .docx, or .txt
    Fiction, Nonfiction, Journalism, Script/Playwriting: .pdf only
    Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Digital Art: JPEG, JPG, or PNG (up to 5 images)
    Photography: JPEG only (up to 5 images)
    Animation & Film: .mp4 or .mov

    • Animation length: minimum of 30 sec, maximum 5 minutes
    • Film length: minimum of 3 minute, maximum of 10 minutes

    Product/Invention Pitches: At least one image or sketch (JPEG, JPG, or PNG) and a video (.mp4 or .mov) or slideshow (.pptx or .pdf)

    Business Pitches: Written outline (.pdf) and a video (.mp4 or .mov) or slideshow (.pptx or .pdf)


    *All files must be labeled with your name and category before uploading (ex: JaneDoe_Writing_Poetry).

    *When you are submitting multiple files, add a number after the category name to differentiate them (ex: JaneDoe_Art_Photography1, JaneDoe_Art_Photography2).

    *If your video file exceeds the upload size limit, please provide a link to your video via YouTube, Google Drive or email us at next.wave425@gmail.com.
