  • About Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

    Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the African American community.     The New Haven Alumnae Chapter has awarded nearly a half million dollars in scholarships since the chapter was chartered in 1959. The chapter provides scholarships to graduating African American high school seniors based on academic achievement and community involvement.     The New Haven Alumnae Chapter is proud to offer the following scholarship opportunities:

    • Non-Renewable: The non-renewable scholarship is a one-time academic scholarship awarded.
    • Renewable: The renewable scholarship is a four-year academic scholarship paid in equal amounts yearly if 3.00 GPA is maintained.
  • Scholarship Eligibility & Requirements

  • Eligibility:

    • Black/African American graduating high school senior
    • Attend a high school in New Haven Alumnae Chapter's service area
    • Non-Renewable GPA Requirement is 2.75 or greater GPA on a 4.0 scale
    • Renewable GPA Requirement is 3.00 or greater GPA on a 4.0 scale
    • Mother or grandmother is not a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated

    Application Requirements:

    • Completed and signed application
    • Completed essay
    • Two (2) letters of recommendation completed by either a teacher, counselor, or administrator at your school with their contact information. Letters must include the following:  
      • The name and occupation of the individual writing reference letter
      • Length of time the individual has known you
      • The type of school activities you have been involved in
      • Comments regarding your character, intellectual ability, motivation, interpersonal skills, verbal and/or writing skills
      • The letter must be on school's letterhead
    • A copy of an official high school transcript with grades and class rank through December 2025
    • List community service activities (must include dates of involvement)
    • List extracurricular activities and work experience (must include dates of involvement)
    • Photograph

    The completed application, essay, letters of recommendation, and official high school transcript must be received by 11:59 PM EST on Monday, March 10, 2026.

    All completed applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and eligible candidates with completed applications will be contacted by email on or before March 18, 2026 to schedule their interview. All candidates will be required to attend a virtual interview between March 20, 2026 and March 30, 2026.

    Incomplete applications or applications received after the due date will not be considered. 

    Scholarship recipients will be notified  by April 11, 2026.

  • Note: If you do not attend school in one of the cities/towns above you will not be eligible to apply for either scholarship.

    Part VII
  • Submit an essay addressing the following topic:

    There are many social issues in the world today. What
    social issue do you consider the most important, and
    should be solved immediately? What would be your
    actions toward it’s prevention?

    Essay must not exceed two double-spaced typed pages using size 12 font.  Essay submission will be evaluated based on content, grammar and presentation.

    Use of any artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist in writing your essay is prohibited.

  • Scholarship Eligibility:

  • School Counselor must email the student's official high school transcript to scholarship@nhacdst.org by March 10, 2026. Must include the students name and high school in the subject line of the email.
