LTC Paul M. Grace Scholarship
About LTC Paul M. Grace
LTC Paul M. Grace was born March 11, 1934, and became a Scout in 1946 in NYC. Paul's Troop disbanded when he was a First Class Scout, but the program left its mark on him. Paul and Patricia were the proud parents of 10 children. In 1966, when their oldest son, Martin, joined Cub Scouts, a nearly 50-year odyssey of service to Scouts and Scouters began. Paul was a career Army Officer, and his postings took the family across the country, allowing the family to scout in the Dan Beard, Kaw, Pikes Peak Heart of America, and the Daniel Webster Councils. His seven sons participated in Scouting, as do many of his grandchildren resulting in eight Eagle Scouts and counting.
Paul took Wood Badge in 1978 in Arkansas and was a proud member of the Fox Patrol. Through the Wood Badge Program, Paul found a calling to ensure every Scout had leaders with the best possible training. Upon his arrival at Daniel Webster Council, he became involved with the council's Wood Badge program. Paul served on 14 courses in New Hampshire and Vermont and was a Scoutmaster and Course Director in 1992 for course NE-1-155. His last service to Wood Badge was in 2013 on N1-330-13; he worked with his son and Course Director, Patrick.
Paul's life was based on the 12th Point of the Scout Law, and he was a dedicated Catholic, a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Consoler's Group at St. Catherine Parish.
Paul inspired all he met and always believed in the Wood Badge course's value and its impact on the unit and themselves outside of Scouting. The recipient of this scholarship believes in furthering their leadership development in Scouting and carrying the Scouting values forward in their everyday life.
