About Capital Improvement Grants

At the Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation, we believe that lasting change happens when organizations have the resources and infrastructure they need to fulfill their missions. Our Capital Improvement Grants are designed to help unleash that potential.

These grants support meaningful investments that strengthen an organization’s ability to improve the lives of animals and serve their communities. Funding may be used for facility improvements, equipment, technology, transportation, medical resources, infrastructure, or other capital needs that create lasting benefits.

Whether it means expanding capacity, improving animal care, increasing access to veterinary services, making a facility safer and more efficient, or helping an organization serve more animals, we want to invest in projects that turn resources into lasting impact.

We invite animal shelters, rescues, TNR organizations, nonprofit veterinary outreach programs, and other eligible animal welfare organizations to think boldly about what their organization needs to move its mission forward.

Together, we can unleash impact—and create a better future for animals throughout Northeast Kansas.

Grant Awards

No minimum grant award amount
Maximum possible grant award: $15,000.00
Multiple applicants will be awarded funding

Eligibility

Must be an animal related nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity or local government entity
Shelters and rescues must also be licensed and in good standing with the Kansas Department of Agriculture
Organization must serve the northeast Kansas service area (map available on the homepage of www.nkawf.org)

Timeline

September 29, 2026: Grant Application Window Opens
October 30, 2026: Grant Application Window Closes (5pm CST)
Selections Made in Early November
Grant Recipients Notified by November 15th
Grant Funds Disbursed in Mid-Late November
December 1, 2027: Grant Funding Reports Due
