Girls like options, so each program level comes with the option to purchase a vest or a tunic/sash as the foundation for her uniform.
This is an example of a Daisy Vest with the starting Insignia. On the top left (which will sit on the Girl Scout's right shoulder), there's an American Flag, then right below it is the Council ID, and then below that are the troop numbers. If the troop has voted on a Troop Crest, that will go in between the Council ID and the troop numbers. On the right side of the picture (the Girl Scout's left side) is the insignia tab. On the top of the tab is the World Association Pin, and below that is the Membership Pin. The World Association Pin can stay with the girl through her entire time in Girl Scouts. The Membership Pin pictured, however, is specific to the Daisy level. Brownies also have a specific Membership Pin, and then from Junior level up, the Membership Pin will be the same.
What about a sash?
If your Girl Scout has opted for a sash instead of a vest, the major difference is that the member will wear the Insignia Tab on her shirt on the left side as is shown below. This sash photo also has an example of the placement of a Troop Crest.
