In conjunction with the 2023 Children's Film Festival, the NWFF is hosting two shadow puppet workshops lead by Cassandra Bray & Zane Exactly.
Workshop: An Exploration of Shadow Puppetry
Instructors: Cassandra Bray & Zane Exactly
Date: Saturday, February 11 1pm-2pm
Puppetry artists Cassandra Bray & Zane Exactly of Shadow Girls Cult will lead participants through a 1-hour workshop, using overhead projectors and a projection screen to explore the fundamentals of shadow puppetry manipulation and construction.
This workshop will guide participants of all ages on how to transform simple materials into unique and bold shadows. Experiment and play with us as we explore different shapes, textures, colors and characters to breathe life into new stories and ideas.
This workshop is a fun opportunity for children and families looking to try shadow puppetry for the first time. Feed your curiosity and creativity, while learning how to use your body and other materials to create cinematic imagery.
Workshop: Exploring Shadow Masks & Human Silhouettes
Instructors: Cassandra Bray & Zane Exactly
Date: Saturday, February 11 3pm-4pm
Puppetry artists Cassandra Bray & Zane Exactly of Shadow Girls Cult will lead participants through a 1-hour workshop, using overhead projectors and a projection screen to explore human silhouettes and shadow masks as tools for storytelling. Participants will create large-scale masks using cardboard, feathers, faux fur and other repurposed materials to transform their bodies into expressive shadow characters.
This hands-on workshop is designed for all ages and experience levels. Join us as we channel our creativity to create bold shapes and designs, and build transformative, larger-than-life creatures. We encourage all participants to bring fun costume and/or prop elements, and to wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in.
All workshops have a suggested registration fee of $100, however we do offer a sliding scale, pay-what-you-can model for those who need that option.
