  • FLACS Exam Part 1 Speaking Tasks

  • NYSAWLA is committed to ensuring that all assessment items are original, high-quality, and legally compliant.

    • Test writers may not use prompts, questions, reading selections, or video clips from prior Regents or Proficiency exams, or copyrighted or proprietary textbooks, workbooks, examinations, or test-prep materials.
    • Test writers are encouraged to use authentic sources, such as publicly available videos (e.g., YouTube), articles, advertisements, or other online materials, that reflect real-world language use.
    • When authentic sources are used, they must be cited appropriately within the submission.
    • All submissions should reflect a good-faith effort to review for grammatical accuracy and lexical appropriateness before being submitted.
  • Interpersonal Speaking Task

    Students will complete 2 interpersonal speaking tasks worth 15 points each for a total of 30 points. The teacher will begin all speaking all speaking tasks.
  • Interpersonal Communication Standard:

    Learners interact and negotiate meaning in spontaneous, spoken, visual, or written communication to exchange information and express feelings, preferences, and opinions.

    (1) Exchange Information

    • Ask or Give...someone’s name; someone’s age; directions; excuses; help; ideas; information; news; reasons; reminders; suggestions; warnings
    • Ask or Tell...future plans; past events; a secret; What…a price is; is happening; someone needs; someone used to do; Where…someone is; something is located; something is taking place

  • Presentational Speaking Task

    Students will complete 1 presentational speaking task worth 10 points.
  • Presentational Communication Standard:

    Learners present information and ideas on a variety of topics adapted to various audiences of listeners, readers, or viewers to describe, inform, narrate, explain, or persuade.
