      WHAT IS THE COACHES CLINIC?

Our Coaches Clinic is a two-day professional development experience designed specifically for synchronized skating coaches who want to deepen their knowledge, refine their approach, and connect with others in the synchro coaching community.

Taking place alongside the camp on May 23–24 (approximately 8:00am–4:00 or 5pm daily), coaches will observe on-ice sessions while receiving structured insight from our clinic facilitator, Cathy Dalton. As skaters work through drills and exercises led by world-class coaches including Anu Oksanen, Cathy will break down the purpose behind each activity, explain how skills progress from basic to advanced levels, and highlight effective ways to teach and structure synchro training.

In addition to observing on-ice training, coaches will participate in off-ice seminars and discussions focused on topics relevant to modern synchronized skating coaching. Topics depend on coach interest (collected during registration) and may include:

      • Understanding the judging system and current rules
      • Nutrition and nutrient timing for athletes
      • Mental training and preparing athletes to compete

    •
    • FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

    • What should skaters expect during the weekend?
    • A fully guided, inspiring weekend with their designated camp leader - a National Team athlete who accompanies your skater to all on- and off-ice sessions, offers mentorship, and supports your skater’s growth throughout the camp. We take your learning requests (submitted during registration) seriously and ensure time is spent working on what matters most to your skater.

The schedule features a motivating mix of:

      • On-ice development: skating skills, synchro elements, turns/field moves, power, pair elements, hops slides and tricks, etc
      • Off-ice training: strength, flexibility, dance/movement, and team-building activities (varies by group)

The focus of camp is growth, confidence, connection, and FUN - all in a supportive, high-energy environment.

Strictly for illustrative purposes, we have attached a sample schedule showing the general flow of camp days (please note: times and topics are different for each camp, and the sample schedule below does not necessarily reflect the schedule or the accurate times for the Brantford Camp)

    • Who can attend this camp?
    • Skaters aged 6 to adult, at all levels from beginners (STAR 3 / Aspire 3) to high-performance athletes. We often have individual synchro skaters attend, or sometimes have groups of skaters from the same team.

Coaches of any experience level are also welcome.

Our North American camps have been attended by skaters and coaches from Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Finland, and Turkey, not to mention - Canada and the USA. We are proud to welcome skaters from everywhere!

    • How are athletes grouped?
    • Athletes are grouped by a combination of skating skills, maturity, and comfort level on the ice - not just their test level or synchro category. Our team evaluates the information you provide at registration, and the skills video submitted by Full-Day Development Skaters & Adult Skaters, to ensure every skater is in a group where they feel appropriately challenged, supported, and safe. Groups are flexible, and skaters may be moved on Day 1 if coaches feel they would benefit from a different level.

A unique strength of our camp is that our on-ice leaders include Senior National Team athletes. They actively help balance groups by giving extra guidance to skaters who need support, and skating alongside more advanced athletes to model technique, speed, and performance. This ensures every skater experiences meaningful growth, regardless of where they start.

    • How do I choose the right camp group?
    • Use the camp descriptions above as your guide. If you’re unsure, select the group you feel is the best fit and we will confirm or advise after reviewing your form. If you really aren't sure, reach out to us at camps@oneteammvmt.org and we will be happy to help you pick the perfect group!

    • How is the Coaches Clinic different from the previous Observer Track, and do I need to bring my skates?
    • The Coaches Clinic is a fully structured professional development program, unlike the former Observer Track, which was more passive. In the clinic, you’ll not only observe on-ice camp sessions, but also receive guided explanations from the Facilitator, attend coach-specific seminars, and participate in discussions designed to help you apply new skills directly with your teams.

While much of the learning happens through observation, we recommend bringing your skates, as there may be opportunities to step on the ice for hands-on demonstrations or to practice teaching techniques.

    • Who will be coaching at this year's camp?
    • Coaches will be announced closer to the event. We always bring in an International, world-class synchro coach to lead our camps, because we know how inspiring it can be to learn from different coaches from other parts of the world. In addition, we bring in experts in other disciplines to teach classes that relate to synchro, such as pairs, ice dance, off-ice dance, flexibility, etc, and we have National Team Athletes offering personalized feedback and skill demonstrations.

Past camp coaches have included World Champion Coaches such as Kaisa Arrateig (Rockettes, FIN), Anu Oksanen (Marigold IceUnity, FIN), Marilyn Langlois (Les Suprêmes, CAN), Josh Babb (Skyliners, USA), Siiri Eskeliinen (Dream Edges, FIN); Olympic Coaches (Alison Purkiss, CAN and Pascal Denis, CAN); ISU Mentor Coaches (Heather Paige, USA and Eeva Sunnari, FIN), International and Olympic Medalists (Kaetlyn Osmond, Kirsten Moore-Towers, Michael Marinaro, Trennt Michaud, Carolane Soucisse, Shane Firus) and more!

    • Is this an overnight camp?
    • No - participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodations and transportation to camp. We work with local hotel partners to secure discounted hotel rates for our camp participants, and send information out to all camp participants closer to the camp date. If you are traveling in for camp and need guidance on planning your logistics, feel free to contact us at camps@oneteammvmt.org

For budgeting purposes: 2026 hotel rates range from $139-$159/night, which includes breakfast.

    • Can my coach attend too?
    • Yes! Coaches can enroll in the Coach Track. If 6 or more skaters on 1 team register for camp, your coach attends for free!

    • Do you offer financial assistance for camp fees?
    • OneTeamMVMT camps operate on a non-profit basis, and early-bird pricing is the lowest available rate for all families.

A very small number of needs-based bursaries may be available for skaters facing significant financial barriers. These bursaries are reserved for situations where attending camp would otherwise not be possible.

Applications may be submitted at any time; however, decisions are typically made closer to the camp date and depend on remaining capacity and available funding. Bursaries are limited, require a brief application, and are not guaranteed. Families experiencing genuine financial hardship may email us at camps@oneteammvmt.org for more information.

    • Why go to a OTM Synchro Camp?
      1. OTM Camp allows skaters the opportunity to challenge themselves by learning new skills, while further-developing existing skills reinforced by new perspectives.

      2. Camp allows skaters to "meet their competitors" and build friendship bonds across teams, enhancing sportsmanship and camaradarie across the sport. When skaters enjoy their sport more, they're more likely to engage in healthy participation for life, and that is what we want to foster at camp.

      3. Camp brings the FUN! Training in synchro can be intense, especially when your team has big goals that you're working hard toward. Camp is a laid back atmosphere where skaters are encouraged to have fun, to laugh at imperfections, and to just try things without fear of failure.

      4. Our Camp Leaders are current and former National Team synchro skaters who enable participants to see skills demonstrated at the highest level, up close and personal! These leaders also give individualized feedback to participants, as well as mentorship all weekend long, and the opportunity to skate in-line beside top-level skaters. Feeling the way the drills and elements are supposed to be skated is one of the best and fastest ways for skaters to learn skills!

      5. You'll work on synchro elements and features, skating skills (edges, turns, twizzles, hops, slides), synchro fundamentals (tracking, traveling, matching), synchro "tricks" (field moves, pair moves, spins), and learn tips for artistry, musicality, team bonding, managing competition nerves, and more!

      6. Because you LOVE synchro, and so do we!
    • What is OneTeamMVMT?
