You all know - our vision is bold and simple - to help as many women as we can, in our communities, surviving any type of cancer. By providing access to free activities and a community of support, TSNW improves the quality of its members lives.
What you may not know - is that we have been limited in building awareness and spreading the word about our organization in certain situations because we are not breast cancer exclusive.
Dragon Boating and breast cancer have a 20+ years history in North America. What started out as a way to prove that women who have or are at risk for lymphedema can safely and beneficially participate in exercise has grown into the International Breast Cancer Paddlers’ Commission.
Because Team Survivor Northwest is an organization that supports women who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer, ironically, we have been excluded from participating amongst other cancer survivorship teams because they are designated breast-cancer only. TSNW members know that all cancer survivors benefit from physical fitness, camaraderie and a supportive team.
Well, we have great news! For the first time ever, the national championship for one of our flagship activities - Dragon Boating - will have an All Cancer Survivor (ACS) division. This is a unique chance for our beloved Survivor SAKE Dragon Boat team to compete with our ACS peers, and the team needs your help to get there!
The Club Crew National Championships 2019 are being held in Colorado Springs, CO at Prospect Lake. Teams from all over the United States will compete on August 24th & 25th, 2019, for a chance to represent their division at the Club Crew World Championships held in Aix-les-Bains, France, August 2020.
The opportunity for the Survivor SAKE Dragon Boat team to compete in this race will help gain nationwide recognition that the benefits of Dragon Boating are not exclusive to breast cancer survivors.
We owe it to ourselves - as survivors of all cancers - to move the sport forward in recognizing organizations like TSNW.
So now we ask for your support! Please help us raise awareness of our cause, our commitment to inclusivity, and Team Survivor Northwest! If you are a past or present Dragon Boating participant, an enthusiast, or a supporter of all things Team Survivor - how much can you pitch-in to make this happen?!?
