About Independence Gardens: Since 2013, Independence Gardens connects children and communities to food through implementation of actionable, impactful nutrition education programs. The fun begins with the Apple Project - our outdoor, edible learning spaces. This extension of their classroom provides children an opportunity to learn about the food they are growing and eating through a hands-on approach. Not only do they learn about nutrition, but through additional resources and programs, students utilize their outdoor space for math, science, language arts, social studies, and more. The outdoor learning spaces are organic and teach sustainable practices as well as provide leadership opportunities for children to excel. It continues on with our chef-driven, student-led LIVE cooking program Come and EAT IT. Students cook alongside chefs utilizing the vegetables and/or fruits they have grown or will grow in their outdoor learning spaces.
Proceeds from this event will support Independence Gardens' programs including:
10 new Outdoor edible learning spaces in schools
20 hydroponic programs
10 Little Sprout (pre-k gardening programs)
40 schools participating in Come and EAT IT
