ABOUT NORTH YORK LIONS
North York Lions is the rep arm of PBAA Lions. Our program strongly focuses on developing players and helping them excel both on and off the court. We foster an environment where each parent and player is a part of not just a basketball team/program but a family. Our founder, Terence Phillips, has been a basketball coach for over 20 years. He has been awarded Community Coach of the Year with TDSB and has seen many of his athletes go on to play at the next level.
FAQs
I'm on vacation for one of the tryouts. What should I do?
If you're not able to make the listed tryout dates, please reach out to us by email at operations@pbaa.ca after the tryout and we will advise if a second date is added or if there are any remaining roster spots. ***Please do not register if your child is unable to make the tryout. Refunds will not be processed if your child is unable to make it.
How does the selection process work?
Our coaches select 8-12 players for each team based on the skillset shown and the work ethic displayed at the tryout. After the final tryout, parents will receive an email with the coach's decision. To confirm their child's spot, parents will have 48 hours to send in their non-refundable team deposit.
Do you offer payment plans if my child makes the team?
Yes, we offer payment plans only for our academy teams
Do you offer payment assistance?
Programs such as Kidsport can assist with the funding costs of participating in sports. We recognize that for some, a gap may still exist, which is why we have a financial assistance process in place to support families who are unable to afford the cost of participating in organized sport. This may include an extended payment plan for their fees. If your child is selected for a team and this assistance is required, we will be more than happy to walk you through the application process.
What are your academy teams?
Our academy teams train three to four times per week, in addition to a mandatory two-hour study hall session for all high school teams. We emphasize training in addition to playing in the NPH League and select tournaments.
What is the commitment that is required for the rep season?
The rep season is both a financial commitment and a time commitment. Our teams participate in the Ontario Basketball League (OBL), with two weekly practices and additional tournaments that may be held throughout the rep season.
