Portland Community Squash has created a facility and community of adult and junior squash players representing diverse socioeconomic groups and backgrounds in Portland, Maine. Our mission is to sustain this diverse community and to provide squash, wellness, and academic instruction to support and empower Portland area youth to achieve academic success, physical wellness, constructive citizenship, and a path to higher education and beyond.
The goal of the Junior Squash League (JSL) is to make the sport of squash accessible to middle school and high school youth in Greater Portland. Youth participants in the JSL have two practices per week and a competitive match opportunity most weekends. During practice, JSL participants rotate through squash and wellness (fitness, yoga, nutrition, team building and character development) rotations. High school juniors and seniors have the options of study hall/homework help during Tuesday afternoon wellness sessions, and all participants ave monthly community-engaged service trips during practice in partnership with a local organization, Furniture Friends.
PLEASE NOTE: This application does not guarantee Junior Squash Leagaue participation; we try our best to fill spots on a rolling basis, but with high demand and limited spots, we need to balance various factors - such as school, gender, socioeconomic status, cultural diversity, transportation needs - in order to uphold our commitment of being an intentionally diverse and inclusive community.
