SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
Maurice M. Williams Scholarship
- Must be a resident of Somerset or Middlesex Counties of New Jersey
- Must be an under-represented (minority) male or female
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 grade point average
- Should have served in a leadership capacity in school and/or within the community
- Should be a high school senior with plans to attend a two-year or four-year college or university
- An official sealed transcript must be submitted via mail to the noted address below
Constance R. Pizarro Community Service Leadership Award
- Must be a resident of Somerset or Middlesex Counties of New Jersey
- Must be African-American or Hispanic female
- Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.8 grade point average
- Must attend public school
- Must have a minimum of 125 community service hours over 4 years of high school
- Currently holds a leadership position in at least one organization
- Should be a high school senior with plans to attend a two-year or four-year college or university
- An official sealed transcript must be submitted via mail to the noted address below
Diamonds & Pearls Scholarship
- Must be a resident of Somerset or Middlesex Counties of New Jersey
- Must be a minority male student
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be in good academic standing with 2.5 grade point average
- Should have served in a leadership capacity in school and/or within the community
- Should be a high school senior with plans to attend a two year or four year college or university
- An official sealed transcript must be submitted via mail to the noted address below
Shawn Marie Stephens Memorial Scholarship
- Must be a resident of Somerset or Middlesex Counties of New Jersey
- Must be an under-represented (minority) male or female
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be in good academic standing with 3.0 grade point average
- Must be planning to pursue a major in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
- Preferably planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU)
- Should have served in a leadership capacity in school and/or within the community
- Should be a high school senior with plans to attend a two year or four year college or university
- An official sealed transcript must be submitted via mail to the noted address below
ESSAY REQUIREMENT
The essay must be typed and double-spaced (if uploaded via the online form) or typed in the space provided.
Please choose one of the following:
- State three goals you plan to reach in the next 5-10 years. What support system will you incorporate into your plan that will help you achieve your goals?
- Personal Statement - "Your personal statement should be exactly that, personal. This is your opportunity to tell us about yourself your hopes, ambitions, life experiences, inspirations. We encourage you to take your time on this assignment. Be open. Be reflective. Find your individual voice and express it honestly." (Admission.UniversityofCalifornia.edu)
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Two (2) letters of recommendation must be submitted via snail mail from members of the academic community or civic leaders. The letter of recommendation should be a brief statement describing the student's character and motivation toward success.
DEADLINE
The application must be submitted via the online form by Sunday, March 4th, 2018 at 11:59 PM EST. The transcript, letters of recommendation and W2 forms (and paper application if you wish) must be postmarked by Friday, March 2nd, 2018 and mailed to the below address. Late/incomplete applications will not be accepted.
