    Pittsburgh Scholar House's Program is tailored specifically to aid single parents who are dedicated to their academic success while balancing the crucial role of parenthood. By submitting this application, you are initiating the preliminary eligibility process to receive a voucher, designed exclusively to help single parent students secure a unit at Pittsburgh Scholar House.

    Please Note: Completion of this application is required to begin the eligibility process to receive a housing voucher for a supportive housing program dedicated to providing affordable housing and socially supportive services to low-income single parent students seeking to earn a degree. Completion of the application is not a guarantee of housing.  Income restrictions and other program eligibility requirements apply.

  • Before you start the application, please carefully read and review the Instructional Guide and checklist linked here. 

  • In order to qualify for residency in the Pittsburgh Scholar House Housing Program, you must meet all of the following criteria:

    1. Be a single parent with primary custody of children under the age of 18
    2. Have earned a high school diploma or GED
    3. Be currently enrolled part-time or full-time in a degree-granting program.
    4. Have at least one year of study left before graduating with or earning your degree. 
    5. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better
    6. Meet income eligibility guidelines for a housing voucher through the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh
    7. Be willing to undergo the application and verification process as required and conducted by the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, including a criminal background check
    8. Be willing to sign a Program Agreement that outlines the roles and responsibilities of participating in the Pittsburgh Scholar House Housing Program.

  • Please note that submitting this eligibility application for housing at Pittsburgh Scholar House does not guarantee that you will receive housing. This application is the first step in the preliminary eligibility and assessment process. Final decisions regarding housing placements are based on meeting the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh's housing voucher guidelines, the availability of units, adherence to program-specific eligibility requirements, and the completion of all required documentation. We encourage all applicants to continue exploring other housing options while your application is under review. Submission of this application does not guarantee placement in a housing unit, nor does it place you under any obligation to accept housing if a unit is offered.   • Before you start, you should collect all information listed below prior to starting this eligibility applicaition. Incomplete or insufficient applications will not be processed. 

    Documentation needed: 

    • Social Security Numbers for all members of the Household
    • The date of birth for all members of the Household
    • The sex of all members of the Household (used to determine bedroom size)
    • Documentation of all income earned or received by the household on a regular basis.
      • Income includes wages from employment, self-employment, contract work, unemployment compensation, payments from Social Security, public assistance payments, child support payments, and regular cash contributions from third parties
    • An unofficial transcript from your school/college/university.
    • A copy of your current or forthcoming semesterly class schedule.
    • Documentation of High School Graduation or proof that you have earned a GED
  • Great! You may now begin the Pittsburgh Scholar House Residential Eligibility Application. Provided you have collected all required documentation, the application takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete. You will have the option to save the application and come back to it later.   • Obtaining Copies of Your Family's Vital Records

    The Pittsburgh Scholar House Housing Application can be completed prior to obtaining Birth Certificates and Social Security Cards for all Household members. However, these documents obtained prior to completing the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh's housing voucher eligibility process.

    Obtaining Social Security Cards:

    Please visit the Social Security Administration's website linked here to learn about requesting new or replacement Social Security Cards. New Social Security Cards are issued at no cost. Please note that there are lifetime limits on the number of duplicate Social Security Cards an individual may request.

    Obtaining Birth Certificates:

    For persons born in Pennsylvania, copies of birth certificates can be requested through the Pennsylvania Department of Health's website linked here. The cost is $30 per certificate ($20 certificate fee plus a $10 processing fee). For persons born outside of Pennsylvania, please see the Where to Write for Vital Records tool on the Centers for Disease Control's website linked here.

    By signing this form, I further consent to and authorize Pittsburgh Scholar House to disclose in good faith my participation in the program to third parties, including my college or university, employers, government entities and/or other entities for the purpose of obtaining verification of college enrollment, household income, public assistance payments and/or other information required to certify my household's eligibility for the Pittsburgh Scholar House Housing Program and/or the Housing Voucher Program.

  • Authorization to Release Education Records to Pittsburgh Scholar House

  • Subject to certain exceptions, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires a student to provide it's college or university with written consent before it discloses personally identifiable information (“PII”) from the student’s education records to a third-party, such as Pittsburgh Scholar House. This includes requests to release or discuss PII to or with a parent, attorney or other representative. The written consent must specify the record(s) to be released; state the purpose of the disclosure; and identify the person(s) to whom disclosure may be made. A record of any written authorizations given will be maintained in the education record. In order to authorize your college or university to release PII from your education records, you must complete all fields listed on this form, sign and date it..

    By completing and signing this form below, you acknowledge that you understand that you have the right to:

    1. Not consent to the release of your education records;
    2. Inspect any education records released pursuant to this authorization; and
