About Joel Leeming
I’ve been training in martial arts since I was young, and it has been a lifelong journey of learning, growth, and self-discovery.
Along that journey, I was fortunate to be introduced to Larry Wick and Split Second Survival (SSS), a unique approach to self-defense that has had a profound impact on both my martial arts practice and my life. After Larry’s passing, I was able to connect with Meghan Illguth, who he entrusted with carrying on the SSS system. I’ve now had the privilege of training with Meghan for the past 10 years, and I currently serve as one of only four Level Two instructors within the organization.
What I value most about Split Second Survival is that it is not learning how to fight. It is a versatile, trauma-informed approach to self-defense designed to help people develop awareness, confidence, decision-making skills, and practical tools for protecting themselves.
My goal is to make these skills accessible to anyone who wants to feel more confident and prepared in an uncertain situation—regardless of their previous martial arts or self-defense experience.
I’m excited to share what I’ve learned and help others develop the skills and confidence to better protect themselves and the people they care about.
