SAR Mentor Guidelines
The purpose of this internship is to provide exposure to the real estate industry for college students who would like to pursue a career in this field. Such exposure will help the intern better decided if real estate is for them.
To be eligible to participate in the program a student must have completed a three-unit Real Estate Principles course.
Intern Mentor Requirements
- Your role is to provide your Intern with guidance throughout the semester. The intern is not to be looked upon as “free labor.”
- Your intern must attend a total of 108 hours worth of virtual sessions/classes – a little more than 7 hours per week for 15 weeks. They will also be attending two-hour biweekly zoom classes taught by Professor Pat Butler from Consumnes River College – these classes DO NOT count toward those hours.
- Each Intern will be required to keep a log of his/her internship activities on a daily basis.
- If the internship is satisfactorily completed, the student will receive three units of college credit.
- You, along with the other SAR mentors, will teach 3-7 two-hour Zoom classes each month. All interns will be invited to participate. You will be given a list of topics from which to teach. We will do our best to accommodate you in selecting the topics you are most comfortable teaching.
- We will also be including webinars taught by industry experts including topics on commercial real estate, REOs, etc. and the free webinars available through SAR will all count toward the intern’s hours.
- You will meet with your intern once a week for 1-2 hours. During this time, you will share some of your experiences as a REALTOR®, answer their questions and provide guidance on their internship journey.
- It should be noted that the internship program is open to full-time and part-time students; however, many of the tasks needed to be accomplished in the program may require availability between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
- If your intern misses more than two meetings in a row, please notify Professor Butler.
- You shall not pressure your intern into joining your firm during the internship period. We ask that you encourage your intern to interview a variety of brokers before deciding on which one to work for.
