Dear Faith Leader,
Welcome to Matthew 25:40. We are faith leaders of any and all faiths at any and all levels of our congregations. As leaders, we step forward together and proclaim nothing more than the statement above: "Whatever you do to the least of these, you do to me." Although this scripture comes from the book of Matthew, chapter 25:40 in the Christian Bible, it is our hope and prayer that it strikes a universal moral chord in the human soul.
A signature to this petition permits us to release this simple scripture (Matthew 25:40 as translated above) over your name and the names of others who sign on. It will not be attached to any other specific cause. And yet, as you can feel, it includes all.
It is our goal to collect a minimum of 1,000 signatures before releasing it to the public. We plan to release it both directly to news media and, if Spirit provides the funding, which we believe it will, as paid advertising in the New York Times, Washington Post, and perhaps newspapers that serve very different points of view than many of us may have. Thus far, we have collected about 200 signers.
