    Important information from the Scholarship Board

     

    • Every student who completes and submits this application is eligible for one (1) local scholarship.  Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a scholarship for each applicant.

    • If you have been awarded $5,000 or more in institutional scholarship money for your first year, please only apply for the Sherie Porter Wright and Distinct Scholarships.

    • You should allow for sufficient time to complete this application. (Estimated time 1-3 hours). If you are unable to complete the application in one setting, please be sure to save your progress. (See instructions below.)

    • Some scholarships have required essays.  If your application is submitted without the essay, your application will be rejected for that specific donor.

    Important Scholarship Information

     

    If you have been awarded scholarships from the educational institution you plan to attend for less than $5,000.00 during your first year, you may apply for all local scholarships.

    If you have been awarded scholarships from the educational institution you plan to attend for more than $5,000 during your first year, you may only apply for the Sherie Porter Wright Scholarship for Exceptional Service and Distinct scholarships offered by the Scholarship Board.

    Scholarship Section

    • The next section will allow you to apply for scholarships from generous scholarship donors, which include local businesses, individuals, community clubs, MHS alumni, and memorial funds in honor of loved ones.  You will first see a descripton of the donor and scholarship, then select 'yes or no' if you wish to apply for that specific scholarship.  If an essay is required, you will be directed to the essay screen before moving forward in this application.
    • If you have been awarded $5,000 or more in scholarship money from the educational institution of your choice, for your first year, you may only apply for the "Sherie Porter Wright Memorial Scholarship for Exceptional Service" and the scholarship board "Distinct Scholarships."
    • Some donors have requested additional essays or questions.  To be considered for those scholarships, you are required to complete the additional essays, or your application will not be forwarded to that specific donor.  Remember that this is another opportunity for the scholarship donors to get to know you and your professional aspirations.

    Janice Larson (wife), Kelly Rae Pulliam (daughter), David John Larson (son), Janae Ann Smith (daughter), Todd Giles Larson (son), Rachelle Kaumyer (daughter) We, the family of Vaughn William Larson, are honored to contribute “The Larson Legacy” scholarship in tribute to Vaughn, his father Raymond, and his brother Keith, who dedicated a combined 113 years to educating, guiding, and inspiring countless students, with Vaughn and Raymond spending 75 of those years with the Morgan School District.  Their lifelong mission was to empower students to reach their full potential.  Vaughn Larson was a lifelong resident of Morgan and graduated from Morgan High in 1956. He received his BS in Education from Utah State University, served an LDS mission and then married Janice Anderson in 1960. They were blessed with 5 children.  Vaughn dedicated 34 years to education, including 29 years in the Morgan School District from 1967 - 1996 when he retired. He also served four years as a City Councilman, 17 years as a Justice Court Judge, and held many teaching and leadership roles in the LDS Church. His father Raymond Parley Larson, moved to Morgan in 1929 to teach and devoted 46 years to the Morgan School District. Raymond's career spanned six decades.  He started teaching in Milton and Porterville from 1930-1936. He became the principal and sixth-grade teacher at the newly consolidated Morgan Elementary and later served as principal of Morgan High School in 1953.  From 1966-1972, he was the District Administrator and became Superintendent of Morgan School District in 1972 until his retirement in 1975.  Vaughn’s older brother, Keith Larson, graduated from Morgan High School in 1949 and earned a BS from BYU in 1957 and a master’s degree in educational administration in 1963.  Keith taught math and science and worked as a counselor at Pleasant Grove High School.  He later taught at Orem Jr High School, retiring after 33 years in education.  Special consideration will be given to: -Students pursuing higher education desiring to enter the educational profession of teaching and/or administration Do you wish to apply for the Larson Legacy Scholarship?

    Bert and Ruby Carrigan children and spouses. Ann (Paul Miller), Neil (Chris), Steve (Suzanne), Kaye (Stan Hoellein), Scott (Jan), Diane (Dan Dickson) Bert and Ruby Carrigan grew up in Morgan and lived their entire lives in this valley they loved. They were high school sweethearts and (in musicals, band and orchestra. They raised six children; Ann, Neil, Steve, Kaye, Scott, and Diane.  Bert was an excellent mechanic.  He used those skills working for the Morgan School District for 39 years as the transportation supervisor. He took great pride in making sure his fleet of buses was in top condition at all times. Bert enjoyed being with the youth as he drove them to all their activities. He became their life long friend.  Bert and Ruby were very active in their church and in the community. Bert was a member of the fire department for over 40 years and served as the assistant fire chief for the majority of that time.  Bert passed away from a stroke at age 65, just two weeks after retiring from the school district. Ruby lived an additional 39 years as a widow, active and alert to age 99. They had 36 grandchildren and at Ruby’s passing there were over 100 great-grandchildren. Bert and Ruby helped everyone and gained the love and respect of all. They would be honored to have a deserving graduate of Morgan High School receive this scholarship to further their education and help them achieve their goals.     Nedra Peterson and children The Jerry Peterson Family scholarship was created to support the youth of Morgan County.   Our father, Jerry Peterson, was raised in Morgan county and received his primary and secondary education in its public schools.  He was an ardent believer that an education could change lives because it changed his.  He followed in the footsteps of his older brother to become the second child in his family line to receive a college and postgraduate degree.  He was an educator throughout his 40 year career and was blessed to work in the Morgan School District as the Principal of Morgan High School and the first Principal of the Morgan Middle school.  He loved everything about Morgan and its youth.   We hope to continue his legacy by providing a scholarship to assist a MHS student begin their post high school education.     Dana & Amber Farmer Keith and LaDawn Toone grew up in Morgan County. Keith was musical and also very athletic - playing football and basketball for Morgan High School.  LaDawn was an incredible musician who played the piano and organ from a young age.  They met while participating in a stake conference choir - Keith singing and LaDawn playing the organ.  They fell in love, and after a year and a half engagement when Keith was drafted into the Korean War, they married just days after he got home.  Though they raised their family in Davis County, Morgan held a special place in their hearts and they would take weekly “drives” to different locations in Morgan, always stopping at the Morgan Cafe to get a hotdog before heading home.  Do you wish to apply for the Keith & LaDawn Toone Memorial Scholarship?

    Plyer Family Jack Plyer and his dad Eric Plyer started Jack’s Bread Truck when he was 15, selling European crusty bread and treats in Morgan county to neighbors, mountain bikers, boaters or other travelers passing by Trappers Loop. It became successful and allowed Jack and siblings and other employees to earn money for cars, college, savings and humanitarian work.  Our family values hard work and entrepreneurship and would like to award it to a student who has shown hard work in some area of their life or had to earn money and at times had to sacrifice other interests to work.     The Wright Family and MHS Scholarship Board Sherie Porter Wright was one of the founding members of the scholarship board.  Besides family, her life's dedication was to enhance the education of graduates of Morgan High School.  She served countless hours working one-on-one with students, creating the scholarship program and perpetual fund, uniting the community and bringing joy and love to students of Morgan High School.
