The YEPLab Fellowship
The Youth Engage Policy Lab (YEPLab) is an intense youth in policy engagement fellowship program designed by the SieDi-Hub and Vision Alive Foundation to recruit and train emerging young changemakers willing to disrupt state-level policy status, to lead inclusive and citizen-driven socio-economic policy change initiatives effectively. The changemakers will be impacted with relevant skills and strategies to distinctively engage with policy and decision-makers. The Lab will recruit, train and mentor 25 young policy changemakers between the ages of 18 to 35 years who will lead policy engagements and governance strengthening for improved community development. They will enjoy access to innovation change training on how to lead change sustainably, mentorship and coaching from renown and world class policy experts, global collaboration and networking, and other benefits. The objective of setting up the lab, is to adopt a participatory process of engagement to influence policy design processes, implementation and evaluation, and to build mutual accountability as a sustainably approach to address complex social issues.
YEPLab Implementation Phases:
The lab will be implemented in three phases. Phase one: Train – Six (6) weeks intensive training of self-instructed, seminars, discussions and design thinking iterations. The fellowship will begin on the 22nd of November 2022 and will be delivered through five (5) weeks virtual and one (1) week in-person training. Phase two: Engage – engage with political aspirants, policy stakeholders and government officials on identified burning policy issues for change. Phase three: Drive Accountability – work with other state accountability stakeholders to drive accountability and transparency in policy design and state financial integrity.
Opportunities in the Fellowship:
The Fellowship presents participants with opportunities to… 1. Participate in two-month uninterrupted learning in policy engagement, policy design, and Stakeholders engagement. 2. Become a civic leader and a policy expert. 3. Contribute to shaping state policy and transforming the society. 4. Network with other participants, build strong connections and collaborate in innovative solutions to common challenges 5. Become one of the pioneer Alumni and join other global networks of Alumni to build the future of young African leaders. 6. Participate in a workshop with young African leaders and leverage the opportunities that come with it to expand your band width. 7. Meet with influential leaders, and interface with top-rated Government Officials, civic, and business leaders. 8. Learn policy and advocacy engagement work from top rated world leaders and change agents from across the world. 9. Receive mentorship from global changemaker sand renown policy experts. 10. Improve your skills and strengthen your work in civil rights and advocacy by learning new ideas, setting new goals, and building unparallel interpersonal communication skills.
Eligibility and Requirements:
SieDi-Hub and all its partners operates an all-inclusive system; hence the Fellowship is open to all who meet the following criteria: ❖ Be passionate about learning and contributing to the development of their communities. ❖ Be between the ages of 18 and 35 on or before the application deadline. ❖ Be proficient in written and spoken English. (Those with hearing impediments will be specially attended to). ❖ Be residents of Abia State (must be willing to attend all the in-person sessions). ❖ Possess strong communication and negotiation skills. ❖ Have proven leadership and community engagement skills. ❖ Be dedicated to social works and community development services. ❖ Ability to work collectively with other groups and respect the opinion of others. ❖ A demonstrated ability to learn, and transfer knowledge to others. * Must possess a valid voters registration card. * Must show willingness to participate in all activities (both in-person and virtual) during the Fellowship. * Must commit to working with SieDi-Hub their Partners to drive social policy change in Abia state within the next one year.
