Welcome to the Marin County, California chapter of Singing Resistance!
Singing Resistance is a group that started in response to the ICE invasion of Minnesota. The core MN organizers put out a call, toolkit, and training for people to mobilize Singing Resistance chapters across the US, and Marin is answering that call! We welcome everyone into the movement for collective liberation.
We are building a mass movement of singers to protect and care for our communities in the face of rising authoritarianism. We are grounded in love, nonviolence, and solidarity. In the context of escalating violence towards our communities and federal invasions of our cities and towns, we sing because song is an antidote to fear, song helps us connect to each other, and through song we can name and protect what we hold sacred. We sing publicly in the streets for the sake of solace, strength, solidarity, to voice our dissent, and to refuse cooperation with oppressive and autocratic forces.
This form will help us learn more about you and help you get connected with Singing Resistance Marin. Our organizing happens largely in person and on the encrypted messaging app Signal, and, for security reasons, we announce our singing actions *only* on Signal, not on Instagram or our webpage (singingresistancemarin.org).
Note that we are having a free, open-to-anyone, indoor gathering on Tuesday, March 17th, 6:30-8:00pm in San Rafael, where we'll be teaching some of the songs that we'll be singing at actions. If you're interested in attending, please register for the event at https://singingresistancemarin.org. Thank you!
You can also keep up with our public announcements on Instagram at @singingresistancemarin and at https://singingresistancemarin.org. And, always feel free to use Signal or email (singingresistancemarin@proton.me) to contact the organizers.
[Thank you to our friends at Singing Resistance Knoxville and Singing Resistance Sacramento for their assistance with this form.]
