If the Building Department or Fire Official has indicated a structure needs to be tested to determine if public safety radio coverage is adequate, please following the following procedures:
Contact a certified, local company who can perform testing. If you’re not certain how to find a company who is certified, a listing of local companies is provided below. They will require access to the structure under construction, which is at substantial completion, (exterior completed, drywall up, etc). Upon completion of testing, they will provide you with a report and recommendation regarding the need for installation of an ERCES. Although a company can recommend installation of a system, it is ultimately the decision of the SLC Office of the Fire Marshal or Building Department. All testing companies charge a fee for this service, and the cost may vary. You’re welcome to contact each for a competitive estimate.
Salt Lake City Fire Department only accepts ERCES waiver tests from local companies who can meet the following criteria:
The company is local to the Salt Lake City region, and capable of conducting radio signal testing using a SeeHawk spectrum analyzer or comparable, using control channels 769.15625 and 774.68125
The report should include a floor plan of the facility with test grids, and include:
RSSI
Bit error rate
Signal to noise ratio
Testing should be performed throughout the entirety of the structure, with emphasis on the following locations:
Fire Control Panel
Standpipe Locations
Below-grade locations, including parking structures
