Take good quality pictures clearly showing the entire fish and the measurement. Bump boards, rod rulers, and measuring tapes are all appropriate means of measurement, as long as they show the length of the fish. Please use care in handling the fish and do not keep the fish in a live well for an extended period to locate a measuring device. If the only measuring device you have is a few cans or reference points on a rod, that will suffice as reference length if you give the fish the best chance at survival.
