• Senior Hall of Fame 2021

hosted by the Sunshine Center and the Office on Aging
  • Shining a Light on Seniors

The annual Senior Hall of Fame awards ceremony preserves and fosters an appreciation for senior volunteers by honoring a select group of volunteers, 62 years of age or older, in the city of St. Petersburg for their significant contributions toward enriching the quality of life for others.

Those chosen for induction are role models for leading meaningful, vibrant lives, and their compelling stories demonstrate their commitments to causes, organizations and to our community at large.

This year's ceremony is going virtual! A video will be published on the St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation Department's Facebook (www.facebook.com/stpeteparksrec) and YouTube honoring the nominees and winners of the 2021 Senior Hall of Fame.

  • INDIVIDUAL NOMINATED

Seniors named to the SENIOR HALL OF FAME will be judged on the following information:

  • NOMINATION ESSAY

Essay – Please attach a neatly handwritten or typed essay that explains why you feel the nominee should be inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame. Your essay should be no longer than a one-sided, 8½ x 11” page (approximately 500 words) and must be submitted along with the nomination form. Include the following information as applicable:

Impact of Service – Describe how the nominee’s work, advocacy, or other events help St. Petersburg residents. How did the volunteer innovatively help the community as a whole? Describe how the volunteer impacted the organization. Use of stories to reinforce the work is appreciated.

Positive Image of Aging – Explain the degree to which the nominee is a respected member of the community who seeks and takes advantage of opportunities to grow, thrive, and contribute. How does the nominee set an example for his or her peers and younger generations by leading an active and positive life not defined by age or barriers?

Awards, Recognitions, and Honors – Briefly list only honors relevant to the field(s) of work for which the person is being nominated, and for each one, give dates and briefly describe the significance.

Other Materials – You may include other materials (e.g., résumé, news articles, commendations, photos, etc.) to support your nomination, provided they are relevant to the field(s) of work for which the person is being nominated. Do not send originals; we cannot return them.

Due to the event being virtual, we are requesting between 3-5 photos of the nominee out in the community, with their family, or actively volunteering.
