    • Completing this application is a step in the process to acquiring an puppy from Starfire Shibas, but it does not guarantee applicant will get a puppy from this or any future litter. While it's unlikely after initial approval, the breeder reserves the right to refuse any placement at any time.

APPROVAL AND DEPOSIT: I will review applications within 5 business days of receipt. Applications are processed in the order they are received. If your home is a good fit, I'll notify you. We require a $300 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot on our waitlist. The deposit amount will be subtracted from final price of your puppy. You do not pay this deposit unless your application is approved.

YOUR PICK OF PUPPY: Puppies will be assigned in deposit order by the first or second preference of the depositor as indicated on the application, and also based on appropriate personality/ lifestyle match. We will not place a puppy based solely on gender/ color if their personality appears to be a poor fit. Our breeding dogs have outstanding temperaments and most of the puppies are compatible with most lifestyles/ situations, but there are occasional exceptions. If you/we do not feel there is a good match for you in the litter, you may transfer your deposit to another/ future litter. We ask that you make a choice within 24 hours of notification since there may be other families waiting for a chance to choose. Should you elect to not take a puppy from the litter, the deposit will be applied to the next available litter. This will not always be the next litter due, as the waitlist for that dam might be full.

GOING HOME: We cannot hold puppies for extended times; it is critical for their social development that the litter departs within a reasonable timeframe. If you have a big vacation planned or have events that would conflict with a young puppy, please know puppies cannot be boarded in a kennel until they have received their full immunizations and their rabies vaccination which cannot be done until 4 months of age.

CONTRACT:  We have a contract in order to protect you, us, our puppies, and the Shiba Inu breed. We will NOT place a puppy without a signed contract. If you have questions about specific terms, you need to contact us prior to picking up your puppy.

SPAY/NEUTER: We require spay/neuter by 13 months of age. For proper development, we ask that females be allowed to have their first heat (usually around 9 months) prior to being spayed, and that males be at least 9 months old prior to neuter. If you plan to breed you should probably look elsewhere. This might seem hypocritical at first glance, but we have a take-back provision in our contract. Any puppy from our home always has a home here, and will never experience the fear and burden of life at a shelter. Taking back an unaltered dog into our home poses significant risk to our own dogs due to canine STDs and the possiblity an unaltered dog could be pregnant by multiple studs of unknown lineage. Spay surgery while pregnant is risky, and several canine STDs such as brucellosis can be transferred to humans, which poses an unacceptable risk to our family. Because we take cradle-to-grave "original home" responsibility for the puppies we created, puppies must be de-sexed unless you are under a guardian home agreement.

REGISTRATION PAPERS: Most of our excellent family companions come with a clause in their contract that guarantees limited AKC registration upon proof of spay/ neuter being provided to us by 13 months of age. The majority of our litters are registered with AKC at birth, and individual registrations are completed upon proof of spay/ neuter. ALL of our breeding dogs are registered with at least one of the following registries, depending on the Shiba's country of birth: AKC (United States), NIPPO/ JKC (Japan), and/ or FCI (European countries).  ALL of the dogs in our program have recorded pedigrees going back many generations.
