With the challenge of exposing them to so many situations and skill sets, it can be challenging to know and how to react when puppies and even older dogs go through different stages of development. We are so excited to help you work through every step of the process. Fill out the following information to register for the Drop-In Classes!

  • INHERENT RISK OF DOG TRAINING:I understand that there are inherent risks associated with Dog Training either private or in a group setting for Gun Dog,Field, Water, Obedience and working with dogs in general. I assume any and all responsibility for myself and my dog(s)during Dog Training for Gun Dog, Field, Water, Obedience and any other work with Surefire Kennels LLC assuming duediligence and care have been exercised. I will not hold Surefire Kennels LLC, Jacob and/or Sara Heesacker, any affiliatesor property owners responsible for any injuries or misfortunes (to or by me or my dog) while training, actively workingdogs, walking or any other work, should they occur. I acknowledge that training location, and the animals, guests, itemsand activities there on, pose dangers to people and animals. Such dangers include, by way of example and not limitation:(a) animals that are difficult to control and that may bite, trip, knock down, collide, or fight; (b) the use of shot gunsduring the training and/or competition; (c) natural and man-made hazards (e.g., wildlife, equipment, slippery surfaces,or trip hazards) that may exist on training and/or competition location; (d) hazards associated with travel to and fromtraining and/or competition location; and (e) injury or death of the Dog. Accordingly, as the owner of the dog, I assumethe risk of injuries, losses, damages, costs and expenses by any means above described, and other injuries, losses,damages, costs and expenses of every possible cause and description. If the dog is injured or dies in a dog fight or anaccident, gets fleas, ticks or worms, contracts any illness or disease, is lost or stolen, or engages in any dangerous,vicious or unwanted behavior, during or after the term of this agreement, on or off training location, the owner of thedog accepts the risk of the same and agrees that Surefire Kennels LLC, Jacob and/or Sara Heesacker, shall not be heldresponsible for it or any resulting injuries, illnesses, losses, damages, costs or expenses whatsoever. I further understandthat due to the outdoor nature of field & hunting environment and the way that hunting dogs interact with one another,cuts, scratches, bumps, bruises and punctures can occur to my dog, even though the dogs are carefully supervised. I alsounderstand that my dog’s participation in any of these outdoor field and water activities can potentially expose my dogsto such conditions, but not limited to Giardia, Coccidia, Parvovirus or Diarrhea. I also understand that my personalparticipation is not without risks such as tripping, falling, getting knocked down and jumped on, bitten, scratched, etc. Ialso understand that in enrolling my dog(s) into any of Surefire Kennel programs, that Surefire Kennels LLC, Jacob and/orSara Heesacker, has relied upon my representation that my dog(s) are in good health and have received the necessaryvaccinations as agreed upon by my veterinarian. I have read the above statement regarding the Inherent Risks of Dog Training. I hereby release and agree Surefire Kennels LLC, Jacob and/or Sara Heesacker, from any and all liability associated with any dog training program I may engage in.

                      February
                      February 16th - FOCUS THROUGH DISTRACTIONS

                      This session will focus on building attention so dogs learn how to choose their handler over environmental distractions. We will build on place, heel, and recall sessions to begin capitalizing on cooperation by asking the dog for more eye contact in some fun drills.

                      February 23rd - OBEDIENCE CONCEPT BUILDING

                      Our focus will be on developing obedience concepts: heeling through distractions, fast & slow speeds, sit & down stays and recalls at a distance.

                      March 2 - INTRODUCTION TO OBEDIENCE COURSES

                      Our goal is to take the obedience tasks we have developed to this point and begin layering tasks back to back. We hope to present obedience tasks in a fun, engaging way for both handler and dog.

                      March 9 -BIRD INTRODUCTIONS

                      Our goal is to introduce puppies to live chukar in a safe and engaging fashion. We will be looking for Puppies to exhibit boldness and positive engagement with the bird. **Purchase of 2 chukar will be required

                      March 16 - POINTING

                      Our goal is to expose puppies to scent of game and help develop the pointing instinct with the use of launchers and pigeons. We will discuss developing cooperation in each puppy and recommendations on how to proceed in exposing each young dog to birds to develop their scenting instincts.

                      March 23 - NOSEWORK & TRACKING INTRODUCTION

                      Our focus will be on introducing dogs to nosework concepts, discuss progression to work on nosework at home. We will also introduce tracking concepts starting with dragged dead bird scenarios.

                      March 30 -POINTING & TWO-TOY INTRODUCTION

                      Our goal is to continue building upon developing a cooperative point in puppies while beginning to incorporate methods to develop a reliable recall in the field after bird contacts. Our other focus for the evening will be introducing the concept of two-toy and how to engage puppies in returning with retrieves versus playing keep-away.
