    M.Y. (More Youth) Voice! A civic engagement workshop series in partnership with the Service Board (tSB), Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS), and The Washington Bus. Read the below information THOROUGHLY before continuing on to the application.

  • What is the M.Y. (More Youth) Voice! series?

     

    The goal of “M.Y. Voice!” is to inform and educate youth on the current political landscape to have greater participation in elections, with this year’s focus on the Seattle mayoral race. Throughout the six weeks of sessions, you will work together to plan a youth-led candidate forum.


    There are many local issues relevant to today’s youth, and your voice must be present in political advocacy and community organizing. Off-year elections have historically low voter participation and we are committed to helping youth understand how they can take action and create change.

  • What's in it for YOU?

    Participating in M.Y means that you will get a unique experience in local government, civic engagement, and planning a candidate forum.

    There are many local issues relevant to today’s youth and your voice must be present in political advocacy and community organizing. You will get a chance to take action and create change in your community 

    Selected youth will receive a $400 stipend (must attend 80% of the workshops to receive a full stipend). *Youth who miss any sessions after the first absence will be deducted $25/session*

    Here are some of the skills you will have the opportunity to learn during M.Y. Voice:

    • How to facilitate group dialogue and difficult conversations
    • Public speaking
    • Event planning
    • Marketing skills
    • Conflict management
    • Social-Emotional Learning
    • Setting healthy boundaries
    • Offering your perspective and opinions to adults
    • Writing professional e-mails
    • Political Advocacy

  • Expectations & Time Commitments

    The program begins on August 17th, 2021, and ends on September 28th, 2021. M.Y Voice meetings will be held via Zoom (contingent upon Public Health regulations).

    M.Y Voice participants are expected to attend in:

    • Tuesday workshops from 4-6 pm  
    •  Planning and facilitating a candidate forum 

    The below time commitments are MANDATORY for all selected M.Y Voice Participants 

    • Tuesday, August 17th 
    • Tuesday, August 24th
    • Tuesday, August 31st 
    • Tuesday, September 7th 
    • Tuesday, September 14th 
    • Thursday, September 23rd - Candidate Forum (from 4-6 pm?) 
    • Tuesday, September 28th  

     

    Covid Precautions 

    *the Service Board (tSB), Washington BUS, and ULMS are constantly monitoring the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic closely.

    Our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and programming are subject to change as public health recommendations change. tSB will follow CDC guidelines and Washington State’s Safe Start Plan for COVID-19.
