Before your tattoo
Ā
a week before gently exfoliate the skin and then moisturise the area for the days leading up to your appointment. (not on the day of your appointment, as moisturiser can hinder stencil transfer). shower just before the session
avoid drinking alcohol the day prior and have a good night sleepĀ
make sure you have a good meal before the procedure and keep yourself hydrated before, during and after the whole processĀ
wear comfortable clothing (avoid light colours) and make sure your tattoo area is easily accessibleĀ
try not toĀ come too early or too late and note that the duration of the session may vary significantlyĀ
If you have any cuts, bruises, burns, peeling or fresh tans your tattoo appointment may be postponed. The main reason is that your tattoo will have a difficult time healing because your skin is going through trauma. The damage caused will lead to complications as your body tries to take in the ink during the healing process.
Exercising before your tattoo is fine but you should avoid activities that drain your muscles and make you super sore. Anything that strains your muscles will make your tattoo process a lot more painful as your muscles will already be aching.

Tattoo aftercare
Ā
keep the bandage on for 3-4 days
Ā
During this time, it is normal to see some fluid build up beneath the bandage.Ā (If the bandage begins to leak, you must remove the bandage and follow the standard aftercare instructions listed below).
Ā
After 3-4 days, remove the bandage gently under warm running water. To take the bandage off you must stretch from each side rather than peel it off like a Bandaid. When you stretch the bandage it allows the adhesive to come off the skin without disrupting the tattoo and taking any ink with it.
Ā
Wash the tattoo with a mild, fragrance-free soap with neutral PH (ex. skincare for babies) or warm water. At this point, your tattoo should be well into the healing process - you may use an unscented, non-greasy creamĀ for example: easytattoo, nebaĀ tattoo cream, bephanten baby cream / bephanten derm cream
Ā
Wash tattoo twice a day (morning and night) until your tattoo is completely healed.Ā (at least 2 weeks)Do notĀ over-wash. Regular showering is fine.Ā Do notĀ submerge the tattoo for an extended amount of time until it has healed - this includes baths and swimming.
Ā
Moisturise twice a day
Do notĀ over-moisturize. If a scab forms, it will be the color of the ink used. This does not mean the ink is going to fall out. Leave the scabs and let them fall off naturally.Ā Do notĀ pick or scratch the area. The tattoo may appear dull until it has completely healed - this is normal and will go away after a few weeks. Wear loose fitting clothing over the area.
Ā
Do notĀ use sponges, washcloths, or anything abrasive while cleaning your tattoo. They harbor bacteria and may irritate or harm your tattoo.
Ā
Remember to keep your new tattoo out of the sun for the first few weeks of healing. When the tattoo is completely healed apply a good SPF (spf50 and above) sunscreen on the tattoo to prevent fading.
