    Dyslexia Therapist Training Application

    Introductory Summer Course: June 8-26, 2026
  • First Year of Training

    Academic Instruction

    Orientation Seminar and Observation

    • Spring of 2026 before beginning Introductory Course

    Introductory Course includes:

    • Fifteen (15) weekdays in the summer
    • Monday - Friday
    • 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Lecture
    • Practicum
    • Classroom observation and participation
    • Competency assignments
    • Final exam

    Introductory Seminars

    • Four (4) full-day seminars held at Dyslexia School of Houston during the school year
    • One (1) approved professional conference

    Clinical Training

    Clinical Practicum

    • Observation of Dyslexia Lab students over the course of study at a set time every other month

    Clinical Teaching

    Demonstration of Teaching Competency

    • Five (5) demonstration lessons with one of your dyslexia intervention classes
    • Self-critiqued by therapist-in-training
    • Observed and evaluated by a member of the Therapist Training staff
    • Accompanying suggestions, mentoring, and evaluation
    • One-on-one instruction with a member of the Therapist Training staff via face-to-face, phone or Zoom

    Supervised Teaching

    Teaching Experience (one of the following)

    • Implement and maintain intervention classes (2-6 students per class) of dyslexia therapy with at least three (3) groups for at least 45 minutes in an appropriate setting each school day
    • Implement and maintain intervention classes (2-6 students per class) of dyslexia therapy with at least three (3) groups for at least 1 hour, in an appropriate setting, 4 days a week

    Progress Reports

    • Prepare and submit periodic Progress Reports documenting supervised teaching situations and clinical teaching hours
  • Second Year of Training

    Academic Instruction

    Advanced Course includes:

    • One (1) week in the summer
    • Monday - Friday
    • 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Lecture
    • Practicum
    • Competency assignments

    Advanced Seminars

    • Four (4) full-day seminars held at Dyslexia School of Houston during the school year
    • One (1) approved professional conference
