ABOUT THE SPRING GAMES Our spikes go deep.In 1976, Coach Marge Ricker, known for her tenure as Head Coach and GM of the Orlando Rebels (est. 1954), began the Rebel Games in Ocoee, Florida: an event catered to small northern softball teams with nowhere to play during the frigid months of February and March. One player on her Rebel roster in 1976 was 14-year-old "Dottie" Richardson, a young player who would be seen by one of the coaches at the Games and who would go on to be a five-time All-American at the collegiate level. The Orlando Rebels disbanded after the 1985 season but, by then, the Games had taken on their own identity. By 1987, Coach Ricker referred to the Rebel Spring Games' 117 teams as "the largest women's college softball event in the world."Young “Dottie” Richardson would go on to have a stellar softball career after college, becoming an orthopedic surgeon while training (and winning gold medals) for the United States in 1996 and 2000. Also in 2000, another member of the Richardson family, Alison (Parker) Strange, joined the Rebel family as a member of Coach Ricker's "Orlando Sun Sox," a women's majors summer softball team. After over fifty (50) years of coaching and thirty years of hosting college softball teams in Central Florida, Coach Ricker finally sold the "Rebel" brand and retired in 2006.Unwilling to leave her Coach's legacy to the history books, Dr. Richardson opened Legends Way Ballfields in 2008 and, once again, invited those small northern teams to play at the brand new facility. Forty-eight teams came that March and every year since, the Games have grown both in popularity and quality. Over time, all divisions of collegiate softball were added to the schedule. In 2013, Coach Ricker went to that softball field in the sky, where we know she continues to watch the antics in Central Florida each February and March. The following year, Dr. Richardson passed the proverbial baton to her niece, Alison. Since then, THE Spring Games has consistently hosted over 300 teams playing over 1,400 games at parks throughout Central Florida, but always in Clermont and Kissimmee, close to home, where it all started. For fifty (50) years, these hundreds of teams have played out-of-conference, regular season games that count toward their record in what is, undoubtedly . . .THE WORLD’S LARGEST COLLEGIATE SOFTBALL EVENT As Rebels, we understand that these Games are a legacy, not for us, but for YOU and all the women who will play after we and you are long gone. To us, the Games represent the convergence of two worlds: then and now, amateur and pro. It is more than just an event to us. Without you, your shared passion for the game, and your vision for the future, this event would be impossible.Welcome to the 50th Anniversary of Collegiate Softball in Central Florida. Welcome to THE Spring Games! Sincerely, Dot and Alison aka "The Rebels"

  • Travel Policy: Impact on Schedule

It is important that we have your complete and accurate travel details so that we can best prepare your schedule. A couple important scheduling changes for 2026: We are going to be scheduling in October in order to allow teams to book their travel prior to scheduling. We will be working with teams leading up to October to start making matchups and confirming play dates but times, opponent play dates, and fields will not be assigned until October to ensure that we can avoid change requests once the schedule is written and published. We will not schedule games on arrival dates. If you wish to practice on an arrival date, you must have a scheduled arrival time to Florida of before noon if traveling by air and before 2:00pm if traveling by bus.- If you wish to depart on a play date, your flight must be scheduled for after 7pm to allow for 1:30pm game start times. We cannot guarantee a 9:00am back-to-back set of last games on a travel date; if you cannot play at 1:30pm on a travel day, either change your travel arrangements or change your last play date. **A Note to Teams Considering Departing on their Last Play Date:We understand that the trip to Florida is costly and we do everything we can to help you save money and be efficient so you can have the best experience. That said, travel on play dates is highly discouraged because it causes problems for our schedulers and staff, typically forces "drop dead" times, and causes a great deal of stress for the traveling team's players, coaches, and fans. Also, keep in mind the possibility of weather delays and how that could impact your travel; our goal is to get all games in and if there is a weather or game delay for extra innings or any other reason, we do not want your opponent to lose a game because your team has to travel to the airport the same day. Please consider other teams and coaches as you would have them consider you. **A Note regarding "Change Requests:" We have always done our best to accommodate teams' individual needs and we pride ourselves on our ability to make a big event feel highly personal by allowing for many variables in scheduling. That said, keep in mind that change requests made after the schedule is published impact more than just you and our schedulers: it also impacts the team(s) you were scheduled to play and, more often than not, the other teams they were scheduled to play. Most change requests, on average, impact eight (8) other teams and should be avoided at all costs. If you change your travel plans or play dates after we schedule your games and ask for a change, you may be charged a fee for the change request. We reserve the right to deny a change request made after the final schedule is published.
  • Cancellation Policy

THE Spring Games is not an individual event. Game changes and cancellations impact other teams who relied on the opportunity to play you as well as our staff. Early cancellations may occur and are understandable; however, once the scheduling process begins, cancellations have a more significant impact on other teams. The Registration Fee is non-refundable, regardless of when cancellation occurs.Cancellations after August 8, 2025 may be subject to a cancellation fee of $100, which will be deducted from game or practice fees refunded. If the team elects to accept a credit for next year's event (see terms below), then there will be no cancellation fee unless scheduling has begun.Refunds: There are no refunds for cancellation once scheduling begins. If a team cancels after scheduling has begun, game fees, less a $300 cancellation fee, will be credited toward the next year's registration and game fees. THE Spring Games will carry credits for a period of one (1) year/event. If the team does not attend the year after the issuance of the credit, the credit shall be treated as forfeited by the team.
