    The Carlotta Harrell Women Entrepreneur Grant was created by, Ms. Harrell's sister, Kenya Simmons, who is an entrepreneur. She founded this grant to plant a seed in a deserving women entrepreneur’s business to help them pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. Growing up, Kenya admired her sister’s tenacity and willingness to go over and beyond to accomplish her goals and dreams, not allowing any obstacles to discourage her. Carlotta was the first African American female Lieutenant with the Henry County Police Department. She has given her life to public service, a quality instilled in her by her parents, Bishop William C. & Brenda Harris. Serving in the community unselfishly all while continuing her education and graduating from Brenau University. Carlotta is currently the Chairwoman of Henry County serving her second term and the first Democrat woman of color to hold this position. This grant honors her commitment to ensuring women have a voice and opportunity to be an entrepreneur.

     This grant will be presented to one woman who has a new business [less than 2 years] or, who desires to become an entrepreneur and currently resides in Henry County, or the business is located in, Henry. More specific and detailed qualifications are listed below.

      Purpose: Created to support women who demonstrate entrepreneurial vision, commitment, and potential, but who may need financial assistance and strategic support to launch or grow a business. The grant prioritizes impact, sustainability, and leadership.

      Reward: One woman selected from the pool of qualified applicants will be awarded a grant for financial assistance in the amount of $5000.00

      Qualifications: Interested candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this award:

      - Reside in Henry Or the Business must be located in  Henry County.

      - If it is an established business, it has to have been in business two years or less. 

      - Present a business plan

      - Be 17 years or older

      -Own at least 51% of the business or be actively planning to launch within 12 months

      -Operate or plan to operate legally in the U.S.

      - Not be in an active bankrupcy

      - Complete a narrative of no less than 500 words, discussing one of the following:

       *Why I want to be an entrepreneur.

      * If you are already an entrepreneur, explain what/who inspired you to become one?

       *How does my business benefit my community. 

      Applicants must present the following to establish residency:

      a. Business license [for those already established]

      b. Drivers license /State issued ID/Voter ID card *[one of these are required]

      c. Property tax bill

      d. Copy of Incorporation

      e. Copy of a current lease 

       

       Candidate or a representative of the candidate must be available to receive the award in person at the event at a date in March 2026 to celebrate National Women's Month.
