USPSA Section Overview
Definition: A USPSA Section is a designated geographical area, usually consisting of one or more states, or a portion of a large state. Each section is composed of multiple USPSA-affiliated clubs.
Section Coordinator: At the helm of each section is the Section Coordinator. This individual is elected by the USPSA members of that section and serves as the liaison between the local clubs and the national USPSA organization.
Benefits of Being in a Section:
- Networking: Interacting with other clubs in the section helps in sharing best practices, resources, and ideas.
- Support: New clubs can receive guidance and mentorship from established clubs or the Section Coordinator.
- Growth: Access to a broader community of shooters can boost participation in a new club's matches.
- Recognition: Holding events in conjunction with the section can give a new club greater visibility and legitimacy in the practical shooting community.
- Activity Points & Nationals Slots: By hosting matches and uploading results to USPSA, clubs earn Activity Points. Not only does this offer recognition for club activity, but these points also directly influence the distribution of USPSA Nationals slots. Earning a substantial number of points can enhance the club's chance of getting slots for Nationals, allowing its members to compete on the national stage.
Independent Clubs Vs. Sections
Activity points are crucial for both sections and independent clubs. While sections benefit from the collective total of all its clubs, independent clubs stand alone.
Why Be an Independent Club?: A club may opt to be independent mainly because of its geographical location or specific business-related reasons.
Activity Points for Independent Clubs: Unlike sections where points are combined for all clubs, independent clubs earn activity points solely for their club. It's important to note that most independent clubs might not receive slots for Nationals since they typically accumulate fewer points compared to entire sections.
Distribution of Slots to Independent Clubs: After all earned slots are allocated based on the USPSA Nationals Slot Distribution Policy, any remaining slots are distributed among sections and independent clubs according to their activity points. Even though accumulating enough points as an independent club might be challenging, it's not impossible. Independent clubs should strive to maximize their activity points to enhance their chances of receiving slots.
**Sections do NOT apply to SCSA clubs.
