Description
Getting Ready for Give Back Day is a Lunch & Learn designed to help Galveston nonprofits imagine, shape, and scope volunteer projects that are a strong fit for GISD Give Back Day.

On April 18, 2026, United Way of Galveston will host the third annual GISD Give Back Day, with more than 200 Galveston Independent School District employees expected to volunteer their morning supporting local organizations. As participation continues to grow, clear and well-prepared projects are essential to ensure volunteers feel their time was meaningful and organizations receive real value.

This session is strongly encouraged for organizations interested in participating in Give Back Day.

By attending, participants will:

Understand the structure, timeline, and expectations of Give Back Day
Learn what types of projects work best for GISD employee volunteers and create meaningful, visible impact
Explore project ideas that can accommodate groups of 10 or more volunteers
Draft or outline a project concept aligned with Give Back Day criteria and ready for UWG review and coordination
Better anticipate staffing, supplies, supervision, and capacity needs
Understand how projects are assessed for fit, readiness, and volunteer experience

Participation in this session does not guarantee placement on Give Back Day. Projects will be reviewed to ensure alignment with volunteer capacity, timing, and overall experience.
