A Warner University Spiritual Growth Opportunity (SGO) is offered to students as a means of developing habits and practices which honor God, encourage maturing Christian discipleship, and promote intellectual stimulation & life readiness. Spiritual Growth programming is expected to reflect a Christian worldview through activities such as discipleship, community outreach, teaching life lessons, or cultural engagement.
1. A Spiritual Growth Program or Event must meet certain criteria:
- Event's primary focus must be help students relate to God and godly living in daily life.
- Each Program/Event must be approved through the Office of Student Life. Approval is confirmed or denied on this form.
- Event proposal forms should be turned in 21 days before the event. This allows adequate time for processing and approval.
- Advertising for the event must be available to students 14 days before the event. Sponsors/Hosts will be responsible for creating advertising and promotions. Student Life is happy to assist in these promotions.
- All promotions must use the language, “Worth 1 Spiritual Growth Credit”. Posters need to be approved by Student Life.
- All Spiritual Growth Opportunity Hosts must agree to Warner's Statement of Faith and Statement on Biblical Interpretation. Hosts who cannot agree to either statement must see the Dean of Students for further discussion regarding the opportunity you would like to host.
- Attendance must be taken and turned in to the Student Life office within 24 hours after the event.
2. Questions & Answers
A. How many Spiritual Growth Credits is a Spiritual Growth Event worth?
Unless otherwise approved by the Student Life office, all approved Spiritual Growth Events will be worth 1 Spiritual Growth Credit. If the Spiritual Growth event has recurring opportunities, Student Life can approve 1 Spiritual Growth Credit per opportunity hosted.
B. Who advertises for the SGO?
Unless decided otherwise, the Program/Event sponsor(s) will hold sole responsibility for the planning, advertising, communication, set-up, implementation, and clean-up of each opportunity for the event.
If you would like to promote your approved program/event in the chapel experience, please save the ad as a landscape .png and send it to spiritualgrowth@warner.edu. We will also include these programs on the main calendar on the Warner University website.
C. Who reserves the space/room for Spiritual Growth Opportunities?
The person or group hosting the Spiritual Growth opportunity must reserve their spaces at this link (also, see information below at "Proposed Event Location"): https://warner.formstack.com/forms/meeting_space_request.
D. How do I take attendance for Spiritual Growth Opportunities
Program/Event hosts must take and submit accurate attendance for the event to the Office of Student Life by 3:00 pm the next business day, after the event. Physical documents must be turned in at Rigel 104, and electronic documents may be turned in to spiritualgrowth@warner.edu or teresa.bass@warner.edu.
The easiest way to take attendance for your program is to request a QR code/sign-in sheet from the Student Life office for each specific event. You can request the code at spiritualgrowth@warner.edu. Please be aware that any handwritten attendance must be thoroughly legible, or students may not receive credit.
If you are a student and your event is off-campus, you will need to take a photo of your group, and submit it to spiritualgrowth@warner.edu. The number of people in the photo need to match the number in attendance on the list.
E. What if I need to cancel my SGO for the week?
- The Program/Event sponsor(s) must present a plan to Student Life, which details how the activity will function as a Spiritual Growth opportunity (in the form).
- Should the activity have to be canceled more than 48 hours before the advertised date/time, the Program/Event sponsor(s) will hold the sole responsibility to report the change to the Student Life office. If the activity must be canceled less than 48 hours before the advertised date/time, the Program/Event sponsor(s) will participate in facilitating a replacement activity for students.
F. Do I have to fill out a form for each time my event meets?
If a program/event has recurring dates and all details are the same, only one form is required for the event.
Completed proposal forms should be turned in to The Student Life office. Approved activities will be promoted through our Chapel experience, email, and text. If you have any questions or are unsure about any of your event details, please feel free to contact the Student Life Office at spiritualgrowth@warner.edu.
