About the NAACP ACT-SO Youth Program
ACT-SO was founded in 1978 by author and journalist Vernon Jarrett. The program is intended to provide recognition to young people who could demonstrate academic, scientific, and artistic achievement, allowing young people to gain recognition equal to that often achieved by entertainers and athletes. Youth have the opportunity to pursue their creative talents and academic dreams with purpose and unrestricted passion.
The NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African American high school students. ACT-SO includes 33 competitions in STEM, Humanities, Business, and Performing, Visual and Culinary Arts. Almost 300,000 young people have participated in the program since its inception. For over forty years the mission of ACT-SO has been to prepare, recognize and reward youth of African descent who exemplify scholastic and artistic excellence.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Communities across the country celebrate Juneteenth in various ways, reflecting the rich cultural diversity and historical significance of the event.
This inaugural, free, family-friendly Juneteenth Celebration is set to be an unforgettable day filled with activites, music, entertainment, enrichment, presentations mouthwatering food, and the unbreakable bonds of family and friendship! Attendees can anticipate an exuberant tribute to freedom and liberty. The city of Dallas will come alive with the rhythmic beats of live performances. Families will gather for games, and cultural showcases honoring the legacy of freedom and resilience. With laughter, dance, and community spirit at every turn, we look forward to a joyous tribute to history, unity, and Black excellence!
