Additional Information (subject to change)
Please note that this funding is NOT intended for the purchase and/or maintenance of instruments, tuition, room & board, and/or other curricular-related materials.
Funding will be determined by the Dean of the School of Music in consultation with the music faculty.
This funding is considered a student cash award and, as such, may be considered taxable income by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The University must report cash awards paid to students. For students receiving $600 or more from the University, a tax form 1099-MISC will be issued at the end of the applicable tax year. Therefore, the award recipients should expect to receive the 1099-MISC. Students who accept the award will need to complete paperwork for this process. International students may have additional required paperwork.
Recipients of this award must submit a one-page report and all receipts supporting the full use of the approved amount to the Dean of the School of Music and Ms. Christina Pyburn no later than two weeks after the project ends. The report should confirm that the funds were used as described in the original proposal and explain how the award contributed to the student’s professional development. It may also include a summary of the project, the skills and knowledge gained, and how the student plans to apply them in the future. Any changes to the approved use of funds must be authorized in advance by the Dean of the School of Music. If the award recipient does not use the funds, uses them differently from the approved proposal without prior authorization, or fails to provide documentation sufficient to verify appropriate use of the funds, the recipient will be required to return the full amount of the award to the School of Music. Failure to submit the required report and receipts within two weeks after the project ends will result in ineligibility for additional professional development funding for at least one year.
Students may submit more than one request. However, not all submissions may be funded.
