• GCC/WNMU Application for Concurrent Enrollment Partnership (CEP) in Cell & Molecular Biology

    A collaborative, student-centered, initiative between Western New Mexico University (WNMU; in Silver City, NM) and Glendale Community College (GCC; in Glendale, AZ).

    Overview of the partnership:  Glendale Community College (GCC) in collaboration with Western New Mexico University (WNMU) will offer the opportunity to students in the West Valley to earn an AAS in Biotechnology and Molecular Biosciences and an AA or AS degree while working towards their BA/BS in Cell and Molecular Biology from WNMU.  If selected, students will be enrolled at both GCC and WNMU concurrently and scheduled to take upper division courses part-time (year-round) in a cohort on the Glendale Community College campus.  Once accepted into the cohort program, students must additionally apply for admission to WNMU.  Students in the program will be allowed to transfer up to 80 selected GCC credits to WNMU and apply them towards WNMU’s Bachelor's degree in Cell and Molecular Biology.

    Application Screening:  Applications will be screened and awarded points for the following:

    1. Cumulative GPA
    2. Current or former GCC student pursuing Biotechnology, or having completed BIO208
    3. Current or former student of the Maricopa Community Colleges
    4. Pre-requisite credits completed
    5. Co- requisite credits completed
    6. Credits completed toward the AAS in Biotechnology
    7. Existing college degree
    8. Extracurricular Activities
    9. Personal Statement
    10. Faculty or Professional Reference(s)

    Application Criteria:

    1. Applicants must be Maripcopa County Community College District (MCCCD) students in good standing.  
    2. Ideal candidates should demonstrate the desire to learn and express an interest in developing skills in Cell and Molecular Biology.
    3. Applicants must have a 2.0 GPA in undergraduate coursework already taken
    4. Applicants must provide contact information from at least one faculty member in a position to comment on the standard of your academic work.  One additional reference may be included that is either academic or professional in nature.

    2. Participating students will have access to WNMU scholarship opportunities.
    3. Students will have the opportunity to continue their education at GCC (and the West Valley) while occasionally traveling to WNMU (in beautiful Silver City, NM at 6,000 ft above sea level) to interact with WNMU faculty, students and staff.

  • Your initial reference must be academic in nature, and preferably from a science or math professor.  The optional secondary reference may be from a professional or other academic reference. No personal references, please.   As an applicant, you should select a faculty member (or professional) who can accurately evaluate your qualities as a student or employee. We recommend you review the Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) degree program with the recommender and assist them by providing relevant materials such as your unofficial transcript, and/or resume. Offer your recommender one or more weeks to complete this form.  Please note that Dr. Tuohy and Kristin Bennes may not serve as references for the program application.  

    We will email an electronic copy of the recommendation form to your reference(s) and ask that they fill out an evaluation to us within two weeks..

    • If it is appropriate to award an associate degree, my signature below gives permission to the community college to award the degree and notify me of the results without further intervention on my part.
