THE JEWISH MOTHER IN CINEMA

Join Rabbi Blake as we continue our winter tradition of screening films of Jewish interest, followed by probing conversation. This winter, we will explore the character of the Jewish mother in cinema, unpacking both the stereotypes and the subversive messages depicted on screen. 

Bring a friend and we will bring the movie, snacks, and beverages. All programs begin at 2:00 pm at WRT. Although there is no charge for these events, you must register separately for each film you plan to attend.

January 11, 2pm:  Image of Victory (2021):  During the 1948 War of Independence, young radio operator Mira Ben-Ari (Joy Rieger) heroically defends her kibbutz, leaving behind a toddler son. This Israeli film offers a rare heroic depiction of a Jewish mother as warrior and patriot, subverting stereotypes.
