    Thank you for your interest in serving as a Watershed Stewards Program (WSP) Corpsmember. In our 33rd year, we are looking for 40 WSP Corpsmembers and 4 Team Leaders to serve throughout coastal California from October 5, 2026, to August 19, 2027. Please review the two different Position Descriptions on WSP's website and review all additional materials before filling out this application.

    If you have received either less than two full-time Segal Education awards but more than one full-time award (for example, 1.5) or less than four terms of service, you are eligible to apply and if offered a position, may enroll (as long as you meet the other enrollment eligibility criteria), but you may only qualify for up to the AmeriCorps limit of two full-time Segal Education awards.

  • ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    If you are selected to serve with WSP, staff will contact you in late July/early August with an offer of provisional enrollment. You will then need to complete pre-enrollment paperwork, submit supporting documentation, and complete additional steps leading up to WSP’s first program week (Orientation, October 5th-10th 2026 in Fortuna, CA). Please indicate below if you meet the following eligibility requirements.
  • In order to be eligible to serve in an AmeriCorps program like WSP, you must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident alien. Are you a US citizen or lawful permanent resident Alien?*
  • Do you possess, or are you willing to obtain an unexpired U.S. Passport OR an original Birth Certificate AND a signed Social Security Card in order to enroll in the program?*
  • All provisionally enrolled Corpsmembers must complete and pass a pre-enrollment medical exam and drug test at WSP’s Orientation. Are you willing to complete these screenings?*
  • National Criminal History Check: 

    To complete your enrollment and join WSP, all provisionally enrolled Corpsmembers must clear a National Service Criminal History Check(*NSCHC) in California AND for your state of residency. The state of residency is the state in which you are a resident at the time you submit this application (as you have indicated above). *The NSCHC includes the National Sex Offenders Registry, California Department of Justice, your State of Residency and FBI checks. Instructions will be emailed to enrollees in early August regarding how to initiate these NSCHCs.

  • Driving Record: 

    WSP Corpsmembers must have a clean driving record (no more than two points according to California’s Negligent Operator Treatment System point system) in order to drive Placement Site vehicles. Moving violations result in points. Having two or more points on your driving record may impact your ability to enroll. WSP will confirm all Corpsmembers’ driving records with the California DMV during the enrollment process. If you are applying from out of state and are provisionally enrolled, we highly recommend you be present in California by September 15th in order to obtain a California driver's license.

  • If you are offered a position with WSP, are you willing to relocate to the Placement Site’s community? Note: WSP does not provide reimbursement for relocation expenses and most Placement Sites do not provide housing - see Placement Site Summaries for details.*
  • WSP Corpsmembers are required to serve an average of 40+ hours a week (full-time). Are you willing to commit to this requirement?*
  • The WSP term of service is a full time commitment and does not allow for Corpsmembers to also attend college simultaneously. Do you understand this commitment?*
  • WSP Corpsmembers are required to participate in two WSP sponsored trainings and the end-of-term Recognition Ceremony. Once enrolled, Corpsmembers may apply to be reimbursed for the travel costs associated with these events. Do you understand these travel requirements?*
  • Corpsmembers are required to wear a complete WSP uniform and may show no facial piercings while claiming hours. Are you willing to abide by this policy?*
  • Placement Site Preferences & Corpsmember Placement

    Your answers to the following questions will inform WSP staff when matching you to a Placement Site. Please read the Placement Site Summaries (on the WSP website) to learn more about the type of work each site conducts. There is no guarantee your application packet will be sent to all of the sites you list as preferences. WSP works to match applicants with sites based on both the site’s needs and the Corpsmember’s interests.

  • Traveling and Driving: Some Placement Sites require long drives (2+ hours round trip) to project sites. Are you willing to be considered for a site that requires extensive driving in government vehicles?*
  • Overnight Trips: A few of WSP’s Placement Sites require Corpsmembers to camp for extended periods of time (3-5 days, several times per year) while conducting fieldwork. Are you comfortable serving at a site that requires extended overnight camping trips?*
