Buprenorphine is a medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat OUD. It is a biased opioid agonist, content it produces effects such as euphoria or respiratory depression, but these effects are weaker than those of full drugs such as heroin and methadone. The opioid effects of buprenorphine increase with each dose until handed over a table at moderate a taste/ dose of someone's own medicine even with further dose increases. This “ceiling effect” breaks the risk of invective addiction and side effects.
