When we launched our first survey in May, our focus was on the pandemic alone. Much has changed in our world and in our communities since then. The death of George Floyd in late May and subsequent nationwide protests brought forth a national reckoning on policing and race. Tragically, the pandemic has spread throughout the nation, and California has become one of the COVID-19 hot zones.

With this in mind, we wanted to offer readers like you another opportunity to share your thoughts about the changes you want to see in California as we reimagine our future.

What is the most important thing you want to see changed about life in California (or life in the U.S. if you don’t live in the state) after the pandemic and this period of reckoning?
What is the most important issue you feel the pandemic and this period of reckoning highlighted that the government, or the private sector, should address immediately?
Given what we've seen and collectively experienced these past few months, have your thoughts on policing changed? If so, what would a reimagined police system look like to you?
What would a more fair economy look like to you? If you lost your job, lost hours, took a pay cut or have had trouble paying your rent or your mortgage, please tell us about that.
What would a more robust healthcare system look like to you? If you made use of the healthcare system for testing or treatment during the pandemic, please tell us about that.
As you witness the pandemic and this period of national reckoning, what are the biggest questions you still have about the experience and what the future holds? Which experts or perspectives would you like to hear address them?
What worries you most as you think about returning to work or school?
How do you feel the government at all levels — federal, state and local — has handled the lockdown, stay-at-home orders and interactions with protesters?
