Facilities: Classroom space, max. 30 students per incursion. ATYP requests that the school provides a clear workshop space so that the students can move around freely (a school hall, or empty classroom is ideal).

    ABOUT THE EVENT

Content: Developing Characters and Scenes in Response to an Inciting Incident.

The award-winning play Lights in the Park was developed by playwright Alexander Lee-Rekers following workshops with a group of 12 teenage actors. The group created an event, the lights in a town going out for an extended period of time, and explored different ways people would react. This created the starting point for this new Australian play.

This 90 minute workshop will use the production as an example of how a single event can be used to develop multiple characters and stories. Students will create an incident or event with the capacity to affect a large number of characters, then participate in a series of exercises that develop an understanding of place, characters, relationships and potential points of conflict.

This workshop will connect with Stage 5 and Stage 6 Drama curriculum while offering a practical extension to the experience of seeing Lights in the Park.

Setup: ATYP's teaching artists will supply all materials required for the workshop, however the school may be asked to print handouts. All ATYP's Teaching Artists have a valid Working With Children Check, which can be provided to the school upon request

Teachers: A teacher MUST be present for the entire duration of the workshop. Additional teachers are more than welcome to attend the workshops, however this is not a requirement.

Fee: $400 including GST. Payments must be received before the workshop date.
