Please review the following before you begin.
A. The Purpose:
The Periodic Updating Process (PUP) is a device designed by Church of God Ministries (Anderson, IN) to assist in determining whether the Church of God ordained minister:
- has a sense of calling and commitment that remains current;
- has active accountability;
- is engaged in the appropriate relationship to the standards and expectations of ministers of the Church of God.
All active, ordained ministers are to complete the Periodic Updating Process in accordance with the Credentials Manual of the Church of God (Section 1.1.2).
The PUP is to be completed once every five years, at minimum. The PUP is not a performance review.
The retired ordained minister is highly encouraged to participate and complete the PUP, but it is not a requirement.
B. Areas to be Explored in the PUP:
- Status of the minister's call to ministry and how it is being lived out in personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Current ministry engagement.
- Connection with the Church of God.
- An updated background check (including criminal check as prescribed by law) is to be performed.
C. PUP Follow-Up:
Based on the responses given in the above areas, a plan to address specific areas of concern may be developed.
D. Additional Guidelines and Policies:
Additional guidelines and policies are available for review in the Church of God Credentials Manual. Samples are included in Section 8.2. If you would like a current copy of the Credentials Manual, contact Texas Ministries Administrative Services Manager Chelsea Haines at chelsea@texaschurchofgod.org.
E. Implications of Non-Participation in the PUP:
Since the PUP is a credentials requirement, failure to participate in the Periodic Update Process brings the potential for suspension or revocation of credentials.
