Application Guidelines
Please read carefully to fully understand guidelines and expectations.
Description and Eligibility:
KEF Student Enrichment Grants are available to all Krum ISD students in grades K-12, provided the opportunity is completed prior to graduation. This grant initiative provides funds to K-12 students or student groups for student enrichment learning opportunities and/or activities that complement the District’s core areas of learning: English Language Arts, Math, Science, History, Foreign Language & Arts (examples: Spanish, Art, Drama, Music), and Career & Technology (examples: Ag Science, Cosmetology, Mechanics, Welding).
Examples of applications that will be considered:
• Field trips to museums, exhibits, or special learning/education events
• Summer camp for STEAM education
• Music education course or camp
• Livestock judging camp
• Sports medicine training camp
• IT certification training course and exam cost
• Dual credit tuition
• Advanced placement testing fees
• Career & technology curriculum tuition and supplies
Examples of applications that will not be considered:
• Athletic or cheerleading camps
• FFA or FCCLA retreats and conferences
• Marching band or color guard camp
Award Range:
The number of initiatives funded will depend upon available funds with a total allocation of no more than $5,000 per funding year and a maximum grant of $500 per student per 12 month rolling window. Simultaneous funding of projects for the same individual will not occur. The award may cover some travel.
Application Deadlines:
There are two application time periods per funding year.
1st Friday in October with notification by January 15th
1st Friday in February with notification by May 15th
Applications and Letters of Recomendation are due by 4:30pm of deadline day.
Notification of Recipients:
Recipients of grant awards will be notified by mail. Depending on the timing of the decision, the award(s) may also be announced at public events, e.g. award ceremony.
Notification of Non-Awards:
Unfortunately, the Foundation is unable to award all applications submitted for funding consideration. Grant applicants not receiving funding will receive a written notification before the notification date. Applicants can obtain insight on specific reasons reflected in scoring and suggestion(s) for re-submission of application in next funding cycle by contacting the Foundation.
Date for Awarding Funds:
Funds awarded directly to students will be released upon receipt of appropriate documentation. If awarded for a future event, the Foundation will submit payment directly to the vendor on behalf of the grant recipient. If awarded for a past event, the Foundation will submit payment directly to the grant recipient after appropriate proof/documentation has been received, e.g. enrollment payment receipt.
Length of Project:
The projects are funded for twelve (12) months. Any unexpended funds will revert to the Krum ISD Education Foundation at the conclusion of the twelve (12) month period.
Withdrawal / Departure from District:
Should the recipient withdraw from the District prior to completing the project or utilizing the funds awarded, the unexpended funds will revert to the Krum ISD Education Foundation immediately upon withdrawal.
Proposal Review:
Grant applications will be reviewed competitively by the Programs and Allocations Committee. Proposals will be subject to number-coded, blind review relative to applicant(s).
Guidelines for Completing the Application:
Cover Sheet
Please complete the cover sheet which includes identifying information. The cover sheet will not be included as a part of the actual selection process by the review committee.
Review of proposals is anonymous.
In writing your grant proposal, do not include any information that may lead to a conclusion of who you are.
Inclusion of any of the above will lead to disqualification of application.
Application
Please complete the application according to the directions. Do not include any personal identifying information on the application as applications will be scored anonymously.
Remember:
• Proof read your application and essay. Points will be deducted for spelling or grammar errors.
• Essays must be written by the student.
• If warranted, list any additional items required to implement the project.
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required for applications to be considered.
Letters of recommendation should be from someone who is familiar with you, your character, your work, and your experiences.
These recommendations can be completed by current or former teachers or counselors. Information from friends, relatives, or other students will not be accepted.
Note:
• It is your responsibility to ensure that the required letters of recommendation are submitted before the application deadline.
Essays
In addition, each applicant must write an essay regarding the grant. Essays should contain the following information:
• What are you seeking to attend and why did you choose it?
• What excites you about this opportunity?
• What do you expect to gain from the experience / How will you benefit from this opportunity?
• Do you have an existing, personal knowledge of the subject matter?
• Is the outcome of this activity potentially a life changing outcome?
• List specifics regarding any support from parents/community members or teacher mentors.
***Please be sure to infuse your essay with enthusiasm and passion!
Note:
• Essays must be written by student.
The review committee realizes that the student’s response will be age appropriate. Should the applicant be of an age that prevents a typed application, a handwritten application may be submitted.
