Project Details: Lillian's Eden by Cheryl Adam is under production for audiobook by (www.audiobooksradio.com.au). It is published by Spinifex Press
Deadline for Auditions - 3 March, midnight.
Voice performers - here is vital information required to submit an audition for Lillian's Eden.
We are looking for the perfect voice performer for this 90,000 word Australian manuscript - a Female sounding voice, which can range in ‘age' 40 - 60.
An English orientated Australian accent, which will convey a sense of life experience, earthiness and a good sense of humour. Think Rachel Griffiths or Kate Winslet in The Dressmaker! The main characters are two women in 1950s rural Australia: Lillian (40s, English immigrant to Australia, an outsider) and Maggie (80s, Aunt to LIllian's husband, feisty and eccentric).
You will be working closely with the author, a project manager and audio engineer.
Description:
(Here is what the fly-cover says of Lillians Eden, published in 2018 by Spinifex Press)
...Cheryl Adam takes the reader to Australian rural post-war life through the life of a family struggling to survive. With their farm destroyed by fire, Lillian agrees to the demands of her philandering, violent husband to move to the coastal town of Eden to help look after his Aunt Maggie.
Juggling the demands of caring for her children and two households, and stoically enduring her husband’s continued indiscretions, Lillian finds an unlikely ally and friend in the feisty, eccentric Aunt Maggie who lives next door.
With wonderfully drawn characters reminiscent of Ruth Park and Kylie Tennant, Cheryl Adam shows us the stark realities of rural life behind the closed front doors and scented rose-filled gardens. She highlights the endless physical and mental demands on women like Lillian who have to grapple with the challenges of a new homeland as well as never ending family responsibilities.
This rich, raw novel pays homage to friendship and to the rural women whose remarkable resilience enabled them to find happiness in sometimes the most unlikely of places.
