In 2019, a new Cert II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) was endorsed by the Public Safety Training Package. This qualifcation is the "PUA20119 - Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)" and is algined to the SLSA Bronze Medallion award.
Whilst there is no requirement for all patroling members to upgrade to this qualfication, SLSQ would like to have a streamlined upgrade pathway avalaible, should members wish to obtain the latest qualifcation.
It is noted, that any members wishing to train and/or assess the Bronze Medallion and thus the Certificate II aligned with it, will need to ensure they hold the PUA20119 prior to being endorsed as a Training Officer,Asseessor or Facilitator for the Bronze Medallion.
Entry requirements:
To be eligible for this Upgrade program, members must meet all of the entry requirements listed below:
- Hold “PUA21012 – Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)”
- Hold a proficient "Bronze Medallion" SLSA award
- Must have completed skills maintenance and have an expiry date of 31/12/2023 or later
- Hold "HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support"
- This can be obtained by completing a "HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid" course OR by completing a credit transfer if obtained external.
- If you have completed HLTAID011 through SLSQ, please ensure you have completed the HLTAID010 RPL located Here: https://form.jotform.com/SLSQEducation/RPLHLTAID010
- Have a minimum of 20 patrol hours
- Preference of current season, previous season hours are acceptable
If you meet all of the above, then you are able to proceed.
Steps to completing this JOTFORM:

- Complete an Aquatic Risk Assessment, located within this form
- You will need to save a PDF copy of your latest awards list from the SLS Members Area Memberships -> Awards as this is required to be uploaded in the form
Submitting the form:
To submit the form, all questions must be answered
Once all questions have been answered, the SUBMIT BUTTON will appear.
After Submission:
- After you have submitted the form, the SLSQ Assessor will review the form and mark accordingly.
- If the credit transfer is not acceptable, you will be notified and provided feedback as to the reason why and another pathway provided if needed.
- If deemed Competent you will receive a Certificate (Statement of Attainment) to the email entered when completing your online Student Registration.
- When you receive the Certificate (Qualifcation) by email, please log into your SLS Members Area Memberships > Awards to confirm you hold "PUA20119 - Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)"
