The scholarship is intended for residents in the state of Oregon. You may be considered if you live in another state in the US, if you meet, or exceed the language requirements and based on availability of current funding.

1. About the OCIN Matching Scholarship
Thank you for your interest in the OCIN Matching Scholarship. OCIN is supporting the professional development of interpreters in Oregon by providing a matching scholarship of $300.00 to qualified candidates. We currently have limited scholarships available so it is best to apply as soon as possible for consideration.

The Culture Advantage Healthcare Interpreter Program is approved by the state of Oregon to train healthcare interpreters.

The regular registration fee for Oregon interpreters is $600.00 plus $100.00 for the Final Evaluation, for a total of $700.00.

For scholarship recipients, the registration fee is discounted to $600.00 including the Final Evaluation. The candidate registration fee is $300.00 paid for by the candidate, and OCIN pays the other $300.00.

After we receive the application, we will review the information and will contact you with the decision, or we may contact you for more information as needed, within 2 to 3 business days.

2. Language Requirements
1. To qualify for the scholarship, you must meet or exceed the Oregon Language Requirements for BOTH languages: Please go to the OHA page to check if you meet the language requirements. (For majority language speakers, languages that have national certification.)

If you speak a minority language, go to this page for the requirements:

Minority languages are languages that do not have national certification, such as Amharic, Marshallese, Farsi, Cambodian, Somali. ASL is considered a minority language for purposes of training. (Please note that minority language programs have different format than the majority languages programs.)

Culture Advantage discounted LTI Exam (OPIC) -Language Proficiency Exam

LTI is offering the OPIC exam for the major languages through Culture Advantage at a discounted fee. You may sign up with Culture Advantage and pay only $99.50 for the OPIC exam.

3. Education and Experience
The candidate must meet education, experience, and age requirements.

4. Current sponsorship or employment.
To qualify for a scholarship, the candidate must not currently be employed full-time by a healthcare organization, or not being sponsored by an organization, or not be a contracted interpreter of an interpreting company. We have special organizational discounts if you are being sponsored by an organization. (Exception: if you are already working for OCIN, please complete this form.)

6. Referral and Recognition
