    The permit fee associated with this application is:

    • Run/Walk/Athletic Event/Race ($125.00).
    • Festivals/Markets ($200.00).

  • Provide information on the primary contact from your organization. If no organization is involved, list yourself as an individual. You can add a second additional contact to this application, as well as a different day of event contact, if needed.

  • Event Information

  • Only use the Special Event Permit application (this application) for a Neighborhood Block Party if you have already been in touch with the Special Events Office.

  • You must supply a site map by attaching a file/files below. Please include any of the following that may be applicable to your event:

    • The specific are in the park/plaza you wish to use.
    • The name of streets, placement of barricades, and road closures.
    • Satff, vendor and participant parking.
    • Tent, vendor, booth, and stage placement.
    • Alcohol service (ABC Permit area)
    • Fencing, scaffolding, signage placement.
    • The exact route of a walk/run/etc.

  • Events in Greensboro parks, trails, or greenways will require a separate rental agreement and fee payment to the specific location, including trails usage fees. The Special Events Coordinator will follow up with the Applicant to complete appropriate documentation.

    Permits will not be issued until park rental is secured.

  • Food, Alcohol, & Vendors

  • The Guilford County Public Health Department requires additional permitting for approval of food vendors at special events. Applicant must proactively reach out to the health department during the planning phase of the event by emailing gchdfoodevent@guilfordcountync.gov.

  • Note: A stage canopy must require a permit. Include the dimensions of the canopy for all stages (if applicable) in the following question.

  • Tent Permits


    A tent permit can be obtained from the Greensboro Planning and Development office, by completing this application, and then submitting using this online form.

  • Safety & Security

  • Please note that all special events are subject to review by police. Size and scope of event may require mandatory support from police resources, regardless of sponsors request. The event sponsor may also be required to pay for reimbursement of police resources used for the event.

    For events on public property at which any type of alcohol will be served, Event Coordinators are required to hire off-duty law enforcement officers (e.g., Greensboro Police Department officers, Guilford County Sheriff's deputies, etc.) as event security

  • If you are hiring Greensboro Police Department officers for your event, you will be notified of the required amount of officers via email following your application submission. The Special Events Coordinator will email you the weblink and phone number of the off-duty assignment coordinator. Fees are due prior to the event. More information is available on GPD's website here.

  • To request County EMS, please submit the Request for Special Event Coverage form. Fees apply; a schedule and more information can be found in the Special Event Guidelines.

  • The special events coordinator will follow-up with an application to reserve parking spaces through the City of Greensboro Parking Enforcement department.

  • Emergency Risk Management Plan

  • The purpose of an Emergency Risk Management Plan is to ensure participant safety and reduce any safety risks of participants during the event. A good risk management plan should acknowledge what risks are possible at an event and create procedures quickly and effectively responding to any minor or major emergency in order to prevent or minimize any loss of life or property. Applicant should either upload their own risk management plan or use the template linked here. If the applicant uses their own risk management plan, it should at minimum acknowledge for the following areas: Crowd Management/General Security, Adverse Weather Conditions, Trip Hazards, Fire Hazards, Evacuation Planning, and Responsible Alcohol Service.

  • Please attach a Certificate of Insurance WITH Indemnification Page specific to the event.

    Note: the certificate must include the following additionally insured statement in the description box of the document: "The City of Greensboro, its employees, officers, and agents are additionally insured on this policy".   • Submitting this Special Event Permit Application does not provide permission to conduct your planned event. Please do not send out publicity, flyers, or other media prior to receiving confirmation of approval. Your confirmation will be in the form of a PERMIT, issued to the organization and/or person responsible for conducting the event. Issuance of a permit does NOT grant applications permission to tow vehicles from reserved or closed areas.
