  • National Conscience Month was created to celebrate and raise awareness about the value of using your conscience as a guide to make better decisions. Created by American Meditation Institute founders Leonard and Jenness Perlmutter, National Conscience Month takes place each January.

The American Meditation Institute’s 6th Annual National Conscience Month Essay Contest will award a $2,795 scholarship for the best essay that clearly explains how the author used (or ignored) the wisdom of their unerring Conscience in a decision-making process. This annual contest is open to all high school seniors throughout the United States, and the award is to be applied toward the student’s higher education costs.

How to enter: Your entry must include 1000 words or less essay in pdf file format on the topic of: “Using the Conscience. Think of a real situation in your life––or create an imaginary scenario––in which you allowed (or chose not to allow) your Conscience to guide your thoughts, words and actions. What were the results? Were there benefits? Or unexpected consequences? What did you learn from this experience?” You are asked to consider how you can “Be a light in the world,” based on the 2025 theme of the contest.
