  • Welcome!

    Glastonbury Festival Events Ltd (GFEL) are committed to ensuring all staff and crew enjoy their work and, more importantly, go home safely after helping to create the greatest show on earth. 

    This site safety induction contains key site safety, welfare, environmental and emergency information. It is important that you take the time to read through this information thoroughly.

    This induction is not designed to replace any previous training you have received or train you to be competent in any particular tasks, but to give you adequate information regarding the site, the hazards and the rules that apply when working as part of Glastonbury Festival.

    The final page will include some questions to confirm you have read the induction thoroughly and understand the expectations for working onsite. 

    The Festival site is a workplace and subject to the same rules, regulations and enforcement as any other work site across the country. Working safely is a legal obligation on everyone. Failure to work safely or to co-operate with Festival Management or your Area Organiser may result in dismissal and removal from site.

    This induction must be completed by each person working and visting the Festival site and not by a company representative. 

     

  • Festival Safety Principles
  • THE BASICS

    • Always work safely, do not put yourself or others at risk.
    • Make sure you know where you are working and what works are planned.
    • Carefully prepare and safely plan for your task - STOP and discuss if plans change.
    • Consider your work and other activities nearby. 
    • Find your nearest toilet, first aid point and fire extinguisher point.
    • Know what to do in an emergency, where to get help and your nearest evacuation route.

    SITE REQUIREMENTS

    • Always follow the primary roads and observe signage and speed limit - 15mph.
    • Look out for hazards and be aware of Permit to Work areas and requirements - the
    • Festival site has numerous buried and overhead services.
    • Keep your work area tidy and ensure you maintain secure working areas at all times.
    • Consider the impact of the weather on your activities. 
    • Do not attempt to lift or open any utility or maintenance hole cover, unless you have spoken with the Site Facilities Office. 
    • Never plumb any additional attachments into the Festival water network, including extension hoses or shower units.

    LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER

    • If you need help or extra equipment for a specific task, STOP, ask a colleague for help and DO NOT TAKE SHORTCUTS.
    • Speak up if you see any unsafe working practices - find someone to correct it, share your observations with management and contact the Festival Safety Team.
    • Welfare support and advice is available - if you or a colleague needs support, reach out and speak to a member of welfare.
    • Be respectful of everyone you are working with.

    PPE

    During the construction period the following rules apply to PPE onsite:

    • The minimum PPE required for working onsite is a High Visibility Vest/Jacket and Covered Footwear.
    • You must wear additional, appropriate PPE for the tasks you are doing.
      • e.g: hard hat, harness, hearing protection, etc. 
    • High visibility clothing must be yellow or orange, and contain reflective strips. 
    • Dark colour, or dirty high visibility clothing is not effective and must not be used.
    • High visibility shorts, trousers or straps do not replace the requirement for a high visibility vest/jacket.

    Coloured branded tabards are permitted during the show phase, providing you are not directing traffic or your risk assessment dictates High Visibility clothing as a control.

  • Detailed technical versions of the 2025 site plan are available from the Site Office or your Area Organiser. 

    Familiarise yourself with the site, welfare facilities, where you will be working and primary vehicle routes to get to the area you are working in.

  • Vehicles, Plant & Machinery
  • GENERAL

    • The highway code still applies onsite.
    • The site speed limit is 15mph for all vehicle types during the construction phase and reduces to DEAD SLOW once the public are on site.
    • DO NOT use your phone while driving.
    • All vehicles must be insured.
    • All vehicles and plant must be in a safe condition with relevant test certification and driven by a qualified person. 
    • DO NOT use hazard lights unless you are signalling a hazard.
    • The use of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited for any prson working or driving.
    • Regular breathalysing of drivers will be conducted before shifts begin and random testing will be carried out. 
    • No deliveries to site between 22:00 and 08:00 hours.

    Failure to comply with the site speed limit and any dangerous driving may result in a ban for driving on site.  

    EHICLE ROUTES 

    • DO NOT drive on the grass.
    • Observe restrictions on vehicle movement - during the show, vehicle movement will NOT be permitted in the Pedestrian Zone.
    • Always use designated parking areas, DO NOT block primary routes, entrances to fields, venues or general circulation areas.
    • Drive at a slower speed if more appropriate to the ground conditions.

    PLANT, MACHINERY & LIFTING

    • Drivers of GFEL vehicles MUST submit their licence to the Site Office or you will not be insured or permitted to drive.
    • All plant operators must have their licences and tickets available for inspection if requested. 
    • Passengers MUST always be safely seated and never carried on forks.
    • The use of personnel-cages is only permitted when accompanied by a specific risk assessment – other access equipment should always be used in the first instance.
    • All lifting operations must be properly assessed and accompanied by a formal lifting plan as appropriate. 

    VEHICLE SECURITY

    • Vehicles, including plant, MUST NEVER be left unattended with the engine running or keys left within the vehicle. Keep keys securely storedat all times. 
    • All plant and machinery must be signed out from the Site Office and never taken without permission. 
    • The person signing out the GFEL vehicle key is responsible for the vehicle and plant at all times until the key is returned and signed back in.

  • A dedicated Buried Services Team will be available to scan and mark up all authorised site works and issue a Permit to Work (PTW) throughout the construction period. Contact the Site Office to reqest a CAT scan and obtain the relevant permissions.

    A PTW is required within certain areas of the site and for certain high risk works, such as ground penetration or hot works.

    You MUST obtain a PTW from the Buried Services Team before commencing any of the following tasks:

    • ALL GROUND PENETRATION DEEPER THAN 580mm
    • ANY WORKS WITHIN 10m OF OVERHEAD POWER LINES
    • ANY WORK IN THE FARM YARD
    • ANY WORK WEST OF THE CONCRETE ROAD
    • ANY ACTIVITIES WITHIN 3m EITHER SIDE OF THE GAS PIPELINE
    • ALL HOT WORKS, such as welding, hot cutting, use of open flame

     

     

    BURIED SERVICES

    The Festival site contains several major buried services including a HIGH PRESSURE BURIED GAS MAIN, high voltage electric cables, water, drainage mains and fibre data cables.

    Detailed site plans of all buried services are available from the Site Office

    • Ground penetration deeper than 300mm will require;
      • CAT scan, and
      • Ground mark up for buried services.
    • Ground penetration deeper than 580mm will require;
      • CAT scan,
      • Ground mark up for buried services, and
      • Permit to Work.

    The high pressure gas main will be clearly marked and signed. ABSOLUTLEY NO WORKS ARE PERMITTED in this area without the supervision of the Buried Services Team. 

    OVERHEAD SERVICES

    The Festival site contains a 400kV HIGH VOLTAGE POWER LINE, as well as other power lines, data cables and essential services.

    Height restriction goal posts and signage will be displayed at all tracks entering areas where the overhead services are located. If your vehicle does not fit under the height restriction goal post, you MUST NOT circumnavigate them and contact Site Office to find an alternative route.

     Accidents, incidents or near misses MUST be reported.

    High Visibility vests (orange or yellow), covered footwear and task specific PPE MUST be worn at all times during construction and break down periods.

    DO NOT bring prohibited items, e.g. drones, illegal substances, sound systems, unauthorised generators or glass onto the Festival site.

  • Crew Welfare & Medical
  • First Aid kits and defibrillators are available from the Site Office / Red Barn Stores throughout the build and break of the Festival. Before the main medical team are onsite (from Monday 26th May), first aid is available from the Site Office.

    Should you need emergency assistance, (from 6th May) use the Emergency Contact Number to phone for help.

    Clean water will be accessible from signposted standpipes across site. Standpipes will NOT be suitable for drinking water until fully tested and certified. Always adhere to DO NOT DRINK signage.

    Basic hygiene should remain a priority to avoid illness or infection – always wash your hands!

    Be prepared for working in all weather conditions. Bring suitable wet weather clothing, sun protection and remember to stay hydrated. 

    Look after yourself and others, take breaks when you can and remember that there is onsite support available if you need it. Contact safeguarding@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk for any advice regarding any welfare or safeguarding concerns.

    As part of our Breathalysing policy, you may be breathalysed at work.

    Accessing Support & Raising an issue 

    For information and support about; crew wellbeing, general advice, discussing any concerns you may have about your team, have witnessed behaviour you feel goes against this policy or if you have any other safeguarding concerns you can contact safeguarding@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk or hr@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk 

    Breaches of this policy may lead to action including but not limited to termination of contract and removal from site or camping facilities.

  • Glastonbury Festival is committed to creating a workplace free from all forms of domestic abuse, sexual violence (DASV) & harassment and will not tolerate any such behaviour, no matter a person’s work status at the Festival. This means that no incident, disclosure or report will be ignored.  

    The Festival understands the need to have a targeted approach to the prevention and response to Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), but Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence & Harassment can happen to any person of any gender, ethnicity, age and ability and the Festival will support everyone that feels at risk or has been subject to harm.

    • An estimated 1.6 million women and 712,000 men were subject to domestic abuse in 2024 (ONS, 2024)
    • 1 in 4 women have been subjected to rape or sexual assault since the age of 16
    • 1 in 8 men have been subjected to rape or sexual assault since the age of 16

    If you are subject to or witness any form of domestic abuse, sexual violence or harassment, or you are concerned about a person you think may be at risk of harm, you can:

    • Report to your team leader or any other trusted member of your management team
    • Ask for help at any of the onsite welfare services or medical – both during build & break and live event days
    • Report to Event Control (during live event days)
    • Access specialist support through Worthy Rest in Silver Hayes or the Park during live event days
    • Report to the Festival’s Safeguarding and VAWG Lead, Anna MacGregor - safeguarding@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk 

    Help to make the Festival safe for everyone by being an Active Bystander:

    The Festival site has many protected species, as well as a significant river running through the site. Any persons found to be conducting any activity that in any way affects the environmental management of the site may be dismissed and removed from site.

    • Always use the toilets provided – do not pollute the hedges or streams. Ensure you know where your nearest toilets are before beginning work. 
    • All litter and waste must be removed from site or disposed of in the recycling bins provided.
    • Large items such as sofas or other furniture MUST NOT be left onsite.
    • Any liquid, including fluids you don’t think of as hazardous, have the potential to filter down to the river and cause pollution. If you are storing bulk liquids e.g. diesel, milk, or alcohol, please make sure they are secure, locked and regularly checked.
    • If you cause a spill or there is an uncontrolled release, use pollution equipment to clear it up and report it to the Site Facilities Office.
    • If you pollute the river you will be charged the full clear up costs and maybe liable for any legal fees and prosecution costs incurred.
    • It is your responsibility to provide spill kits for your work and area.
    • If you find any dead birds onsite, please do not touch or move them. Contact the Site Facilities Office, who will arrange for proper removal and disposal. 
    • There is a legal requirement to look after protected species onsite. Anyone found interferring with or causing damage to anything provided to protect these species will be required to leave site. Warning signs, fencing and wildlife exclusion zones must be adhered to at all times.

    We ask that you please DO NOT post any images, videos or details from the Glastonbury Festival site on your personal or business social media accounts ahead of our gates opening on Wednesday 25th June 2025.

    Remember when using apps such as WhatsApp for chats and work-based communication that this should be done with courtesy and respect, using caution, and no personal or sensitive information and details shared.

    Correspondence can be requested to be disclosed so be mindful of what you are writing and consider the impact on recipients, or if this was to be made available to other parties.

  • Please always consider and respect Worthy Farm, the Festival site and its neighbours. 

    Security on site is paramount to the safety and wellbeing of everyone working and attending the Festival. Please report any suspicious behaviour to Security, your Area Organiser, Site Contact or the Site Office.

    Please be reminded CCTV and filming will be in operation across site at various times and by entering the site you consent to being filmed.
