The Essence Music Festival, known as "the party with a purpose," is an annual music festival that started in 1994 as a one-time event to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Essence, a magazine aimed primarily towards African American women. It is the most significant event celebrating African American culture and music in the United States. Locally referred to as the Essence Fest, in New Orleans, Louisiana, every year since 1994 except for 2006, held in Houston, Texas due to Hurricane Katrina. 2020 & 2021 due to the pandemic. Essence Music Festival features artists simultaneously performing on the main stage and standing-room-only super lounge stages.

What began in 1962 as Ohio Valley Jazz Festival evolved into a spectacular two-day R & B music celebration held each summer at Paul Brown Stadium on Cincinnati's riverfront.

Cincinnati Music Festival has become one of the country's premier summer music events attracting more than 45,000 attendees annually from all over the country for two days and nights of music, dining, dancing, shopping, and entertainment. Past performers include LL Cool J, Janet Jackson, The O’Jays, Mary J. Blige, Charlie Wilson, Frankie Beverly, Fantasia, Chaka Khan, New Edition, & The Deele. Each summer, the Cincinnati Music Festival is held at Paul Brown Stadium - home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
